Bronx Community College of The City University of New York offers more than 30 academic programs that prepare students for careers and to continue their education at four-year colleges. Reporting to the President, the Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education serves as a key member of the management team, responsible for providing strategic and innovative leadership in advancing and managing workforce development programs, continuation of education, and other student and academic program advancement initiatives of the college. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, coordinating, and advancing the strategic public-private partnerships and work with businesses, trade groups, and community organizations to help stimulate the local and regional economic programs through workforce development initiatives. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing fee-based professional training programs, worker training and re-taring programs as well as cultivate and launch contract and grant-sponsored workforce training, literacy and professional development programs, with a focus on addressing the needs of local and regional businesses and industries.

The Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Provides leadership in course and programmatic design, instructional delivery and assessment activities, conducting research and analysis to evaluate viability of new and existing non-credit programs.
  • Build collaborative relationships with the Office if Academic Affairs (OAA) leadership and faculty to ensure the alignment of workforce development programs with academic, industry, and public/private sector employment needs and expectations.
  • Employ evidence-based enrollment management strategies to facilitate program growth, including key decisions about programmatic structure and course delivery (e.g., online, hybrid) with particular focus on retention, persistence and program completion.
  • Recruit appropriate training providers and curriculum developers, as needed, to fulfill specific program needs.
  • Collaborate with other academic deans to build pathways for students from non-credit to credit programs and prior learning options for non-traditional degree programs.
  • Ensure obtainment of accreditation and/or approval for specific programs as applicable and contribute to development of grant or other funding proposals.
  • Develop and promote partnerships with business and industry partner, agencies. Community organizations on grants or other financial opportunities to support prospective and incumbent workforce skills improvement.
  • Work with community leaders to develop innovative leisure and community programs that support lifelong learning.
  • Conduct analysis of Workforce and continuing education needs based on information from business and industry partners (non-credit certificate programs, industry specific licensure, certifications, other credentials) and lead the development of new programs and offerings.
  • Analyze the financial, budget social and organizational opportunities in developing and delivering new workforce, literacy and professional training programs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor annual department budget, various grant budgets and contract budgets relating to department’s activities.
  • Provide oversight of program implementation, including marketing, recruitment of staff, budget, and schedule of programs.
  • Prepare and provide progress reports and update routinely to stakeholders, as well as the senior leadership of the College and University.
  • Oversee all aspects of the professional and support staff involved in customized training, occupational skills training and general interest continuing education throughout the College and at corporate locations.
  • Exercises functional and technical supervision over assigned HEOs, classified professionals, College Assistants or student staff and other contractual personnel. Manage a staff of employees of varying roles and responsibility, manage performance expectations, and provide performance feedback on a regular and annual basis.
  • Assist and work with the President on special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience.

The preferred candidate will have earned a doctorate in higher education administration, student personnel, counseling, or an academic discipline, and at least ten (10) years of progressive management experience, six (6) of which should be as a top-level Workforce Development or Continuing Education administrator (Dean or higher) in an institution of higher learning. The candidate should have: prior experience in developing partnerships between colleges and industry and advancing workforce development and continuing education program initiatives. The successful candidate will have a commitment to develop and establish workforce development and continuing education programs in accordance with the state mission, goals, and objectives and priorities of the College. Must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and possess the ability to work with a diverse population, including faculty, staff, students, business and industry leaders as well as workforce development and continuing education leaders. The candidate must have the ability to work productively in a shared governance setting. They must have the ability to develop and implement new programs and assess the effectiveness of the programs. Strong organizational and leadership skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, grant writing experience, business plan development experience, and budget management experience. Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy. Familiarity with MS Office Program, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publishers, and Outlook), Virtual Platforms (Teams, Zoom, WebEx, Skype), Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and G-Suite (Google Docs, Google Mails, Google Hangout, etc.) is a plus. Familiarity with educational learning management systems, student management, and reporting systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, Schoology, Banner and Argos is a plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary commensurate with education and experience. ($155,000 - $216,632)
