Posting Summary 

The Department of Physics and Astronomy/SAS at Rutgers University plans to hire a Postdoctoral Associate in experimental condensed matter physics. The position’s anticipated duration is two years; please note that an extension to the second year is upon mutual written agreement between the parties. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in condensed matter physics or materials science and demonstrate excellent research and communication skills. The position is associated with the Center for Quantum Materials Synthesis (http://cqms.rutgers.edu). The successful candidate is expected to lead the user program within the Center. This position is geared towards thin-film growth, especially on new functional substrates, by pulsed laser deposition and/or other PVD methods, including characterization with magnetic, electrical, and photo-electron methods. Applicants must provide a CV, cover letter, and three letters of recommendation.

COVID-19 Immunization RequirementUnder Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience 

A Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, or a related field completed within the past 7 years and demonstrate excellence in research and strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

A record of productive and creative research demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Excellent writing and oral communication skills

A highly motivated person is needed with the ability to lead projects and work on multiple tasks within deadlines independently.

An Applicant must complete all Ph.D. degree requirements before starting this appointment. This appointment will be for up to 2 years, with the potential for extension from year one to year two upon mutual agreement. Future appointments and extensions are subject to performance and the availability of funding.
