Supervisor of Grants Administration

{Contracts, Finance & Grants}

Department of Public Health

Under direction, supervises and/or participates in the preparation, review, and administration of government grants for a variety of departmental or City-wide programs, and performs related duties as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises the grants administration process for the Chicago Department of Public Health.
  • Assigns and monitors the work of staff engaged in various grant administration activities, including proposal development, submission and reporting; and grant award review, distribution and reporting.
  • Reviews submitted proposals for accuracy, completeness and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Negotiates budget revisions and amendments with funders in conjunction with program and fiscal staff.
  • Responds to inquiries from funders and provides necessary documentation.
  • Develops and submits budgets in conjunction with fiscal and program staff.
  • Provides technical assistance to staff when appropriate.
  • Works with program staff to create funding plans that support the work of Healthy Chicago 2.0 (citywide plan for health equity) and searches for grant opportunities that match those plans. 

Perform related duties as required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday

8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Some additional hours may be required in case of public health emergency.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a directly related field plus four years of work experience in grants administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Licensure, Certification or Other Qualifications

N/A

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and an Excel skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Previous work experience developing complex budgets
  • Previous work experience with writing Federal, State, and Foundation grants.
  • Previous work experience leading multi-departmental teams.
  • Proficiency with using Microsoft Excel
  • Previous work experience with Public Health Programs.
