This Opportunity:

The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will work closely with the Chief of Party to provide overall leadership and management of the project including meeting the project’s technical objectives, harmonizing activities across the program, managing financial resources, program staff, partnering agreements, maintaining good working relationships with the South African government officials and local partners, managing client reporting, and ensuring high-quality service delivery. The DCOP will have demonstrated ability to work in complex environments and manage diverse teams to deliver impact. 

Reporting and Supervision:

The Deputy Chief of Party will report to Chief of Party. 

Location: Pretoria, South Africa

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Support the Chief of Party to provide technical direction and supervision for all program activities and interventions to ensure integration, coordination, and collaboration across all result areas

Ensure that project objectives, outcomes, and deliverables are met and that reporting requirements of the donor are followed.

Ensure quality activity implementation and ensure compliance with donor requirements.

Promote sustainability of project activities through effective networking, linkages to other programs, capacity building of project staff, and institutional strengthening of implementing partners and local organizations

Provide operational, technical, programmatic, financial, and management guidance and support for project activities

Undertaking other duties as assigned by the Chief of Party

Key Competencies Required:

At least 8 years’ experience in international development working with donors (including USAID) is required.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Deputy Chief of Party or in a senior leadership position of a project that is implemented at the country level that required the assembling, managing, and assisting with supervising complex teams. 3 years’ experience with global health (supply chain management, health information systems, procurement, warehousing and logistics) programs strongly preferred. 

Demonstrated experience coordinating and collaborating with stakeholders including government agencies, South African government and counterparts, and international donor agencies.

Experience in monitoring and documenting project activities and outcomes.

Strong leadership, program, organizational management and oral and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills for working with project staff, donors and beneficiaries.

Master’s degree in global public health, business, supply chain management, public administration, healthcare administration, or a related field. 

Experience working and living in South Africa is preferred.
