The Opportunity

The Sr Director Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for supporting EHS processes and systems, ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations across CSL's global plasma collection network.

As a member of the EHS leadership team, you will help develop strategic objectives targeting EHS systems & processes; field support, auditing and continuous improvement will also be key responsibilities, requiring flexibility and moderate travel (30%) domestically or internationally.

You will report to the Global Head, Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability.

The Role

Provide Plasma EHS Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive EHS program strategy in line with CSL's Global EHS program objectives; proactively identify significant EHS risks and creating associated mitigation plans; communicate EHS risks, EHS program strategies, and EHS program performance to Head of CSL EHS.
  • Provide guidance to Plasma Center teams to execute the global & regional strategies and programs.
  • Align with EHS leadership to guide and set the right tone for the safety culture
  • Set objectives and provide clear direction for execution.
  • Ensure all members of the Plasma EHS team are proactively working to prevent health and/or safety incidents, minimizing environmental impacts, and maintaining compliance.
  • Enable a culture of cross functional collaboration and communications
  • Be a valuable member and contributor to the operations leadership teams

Provides EHS Expertise to the CSL Plasma Group

  • Support Plasma with in completing local EHS and regulatory reporting as necessary, incl reports for their respective states, regulatory bodies, (e.g. EPA, local communities/etc., OSHA, FDA)and any third party clients when needed/requested.
  • Support the sites with outside parties, including governmental and non-governmental organization/agencies.
  • Be a technical resource on EHS programs and processes to include overseeing auditing of compliance to all regulatory requirements.
  • Provide recommendations for control and corrections of EHS issues, assist sites with the development of corrective action, and track and drive closure of corrective actions.
  • Be a primary point of contact and liaison between site/region and network resources
  • Develop and implement guidelines to standardize and improve the EHS system across the organization.
  • Drive implementation of standard systems.
  • Facilitate and participate in site assessments.
  • Establish and lead regular cadence of calls/site visits.
  • Participate in site special events such as process improvement, test project work, new equipment, etc. Facilitate and/or lead Kaizens where needed for continuous improvement in EHS areas.
  • Be a EHS liaison for crisis management and emergency preparedness response related issues impacting employee/guest safety.
  • Support efforts to systematically identify and assess environmental aspects of CSL's network activities, products, and services that can be controlled or influenced.
  • Coordinate efforts with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to mitigate the impact of significant environmental aspects.
  • Support environmental compliance, permitting, and reporting including but not limited to air, regulated medical waste and storm-water discharges related to daily operations and construction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on EHS related initiatives for network expansion.
  • Support health policies and wellness programs, including but not limited to occupations health and risk-based health promotion programs and in alignment with global employee well-being initiatives, to enhance employee safety and wellbeing.
  • Liaison between key stake holders in the management of injuries/illnesses which impact employee health/safety and workers' compensation compliance.

Leadership of People and Teams

  • Builds, develops and manages leadership team capable of engaging employees' commitment to achieve the company's goals and objectives, while complying with company policies.
  • Ensure capabilities for delivering future capacities.
  • Promote high employee engagement and a positive work environment.
  • Responsible for organizational design and staffing decisions. Recruit, retain, train and develop the team.
  • Build and sustain employee engagement by creating a culture of efficient execution and an environment in which individuals and teams can excel and continuously improve.

Place a high priority on developing others through coaching, feedback and developmental goals; create an environment that leverages internal talent from across regions and functions when filling roles and planning succession; use assignments, rotations, and targeted coaching to build both leadership and technical capabilities

Your skills and experience

Education

Bachelor's in Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

  • 12 years' relevant experience including regulatory inspections
  • Demonstrated knowledge of establishing and maintaining a Safety Culture
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety legislation and its implementation
  • Deep understanding/working knowledge of:
  • HAZMAT including but not limited to lead, asbestos, PCBs or other hazardous materials use, handling and storage.
  • Hazardous Energy Control (Lock Out / Tag Out)
  • Fall prevention and protection
  • Ergonomics
  • Hot work
  • Respiratory protection
  • Rigging and critical lift planning
  • Electrical safety and arc flash protection (NFPA 70E)
  • Work with leaders in a large multi-site/matrix organization. Experience working in Pharmaceuticals, large retail and/or plasma a plus.
