Position Summary

The Vice President, Advancement serves as the principal fundraising professional responsible for the strategic growth of a development program consisting of corporate support and foundation giving, annual giving, major gifts, and special events. The Vice President, Advancement is a member of the Foundation’s senior leadership team and serves as a visionary in developing and executing long-term strategies to increase SYF’s fundraising efforts. Strategic focus includes aligning with the organization’s national reach, scope of activities, and increasing its level of committed volunteers. Working with the President & CEO, the Vice President, Advancement leads an effort to build a strong fundraising culture throughout all levels of Foundation Board, staff, and stakeholders. The Vice President, Advancement creates and effectively executes a comprehensive internal/external fundraising plan that covers all areas of giving while utilizing the full array of resources and networks at SYF.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years of experience as a development executive with a proven record in annual campaign planning and management, preferably on a regional or national perspective.
  • Experience leading an advancement operation, including supervision of fundraising staff and shared resources.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to create and present in a convincing and professional manner, to inspire and generate enthusiasm among donors, volunteers, and staff to support the achievement of the SYF Mission.
  • Lead with enthusiasm, energy, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Must poses excellent organizational skills with a proven reputation for attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and use of various types of media include social media to drive support and knowledge of SYF. Experience as an independent, critical and strategic thinker with good judgment, sensitivity, who values working as part of a team
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices. Ability to think strategically to inform and frame plans and execution.
  • Proven success in asking for gifts, building and maintaining long-term relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and volunteers
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities
  • Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) management and mall marketing experience preferred.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to project professional competence, leadership capability, personal and professional maturity which inspires trust and confidence in staff and donors.

Major Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Manage, enhance, and execute all Simon-related campaigns and events as it relates on-mall fundraising, field events, employee giving.

  • Develop and maintain Simon internal relationships to leverage support and partnerships with Simon related business relationships.
  • Cultivate, solicit and provide stewardship of high-net-worth donors and prospective donors.
  • Develop, document to include timeline, implement, and report on a comprehensive strategic fundraising plan and strategy for the annual campaign.
  • Develop, document to include timeline, implement, and report on a successful major giving program and serve as a primary major gift solicitor.
  • Develop and document process for use of appropriate management systems enabling large-scale fundraising solicitations, subsequent recording and tracking of results, and provide effective stewardship to all donors.
  • Develop and execute special events to support fundraising, community engagement and donor cultivation.
  • Develop and oversee the execution and management of support from major foundations and local corporate, family, and community foundations.
  • Develop a planned giving program to expand current bequest giving.
  • Manage and enhance event-related giving.
  • Serve as Advancement committee liaison and work with board chair, advancement chair and other key board members to encourage and support their efforts to develop major donors.
  • Foster a culture that promotes teamwork and professional growth while pursuing an aggressive, creative fundraising program.

Supervise and mentor Advancement staff Authority

  • The Vice President, Advancement is authorized to coach and discipline subordinate staff.
  • The Vice President, Advancement is responsible for the annual Performance Management process for subordinate staff.

Budget Responsibility

  • The Vice President, Advancement is responsible for preparing and monitoring the Foundation’s annual revenue budget.
  • The Vice President, Advancement is responsible for oversight of the Advancement budget, including monitoring and modifying forecasts, speaking to variance causals, and developing plans to close gaps per timelines established by the Director, Finance and Operations.

  • Maintain commitment to professional ethics.
  • Travel as required.

Reporting Relationship

  • The Vice President, Advancement reports directly to the President & CEO.
