What you'll do (Design & Development)

• Coach and mentor other engineers in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed
• Make recommendations for overall application system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance
• Support the build and deployment pipeline and when necessary, both diagnose and solve production support issues
• Identify, scope, and architect solutions for new features while considering technology alternatives and all impacts / tradeoffs
• Work closely with Product, Design, and QA to deliver world-class digital experiences
• Get the opportunity to stay ahead of new technologies with an eye to evaluating and potentially incorporating them into your team's architecture; introduce new technologies that have ROI / influence
• Apply understanding to constantly improve the cloud infrastructure that powers our high-performance, consumer-scale site and mobile apps
• Lead large initiatives within the team, including technical design / delivery of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves the customer and Partner user experiences
• Recommend changes to processes and tools at the group / dept level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices
• Influence others in technical decision-making / technology adoption within their domain
• Diagnose / troubleshoot extremely complex issues independently
• Develop technical roadmaps and lead engineers across one or more squads to deliver initiatives
• Help grow Digital Engineering by driving execution of organization-wide activities
• Identify ways to improve codebases, solutions to complex problems, and effectively propose paths forward to drive outcomes
• Create documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards
• Operate with minimal direction to drive large-scale initiatives
• Provide end-to-end support to applications

Specific to Android

• Build world-class native mobile applications for millions of users using a variety of tools, such as Android Studio, Kotlin, JUnit, Android Arch Components, RxJava, Dagger, Lottie, Firebase, Charles, Postman, Zeplin, and more

Specific to iOS

• Build world-class native mobile applications for millions of users using a variety of tools, such as Xcode, Swift, RxSwift, XCUITest, Lottie, Firebase, Charles, Postman, Zeplin, and more

Specific to Engineer in Test

• Lead testing design and automation of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves the customer and Partner user experiences; lead larger initiatives within a team
• Apply understanding to constantly improve the testing infrastructure that powers our high-performance, consumer-scale site and mobile apps
• Help define and manage our testing coverage strategies

Who You Are

• You have an ownership mentality and a consistent track record of timely delivery of high-quality software
• You have skills in multiple languages, technologies, and frameworks and can quickly on-board to projects in minimal time
• You're capable of learning new technologies, processes, or business quickly and effectively
• You approach problem-solving holistically and consider solutions through a combination of technology and process
• You have an expert understanding of development methodologies and processes
• You understand cross-tech stacks and scalability and reliability implications
• You can coordinate work for a group of engineers on major initiatives
• You have expert knowledge of system architecture and design patterns
• You have deep knowledge about multiple technologies, including technology used at H-E-B
• You have at least 3+ years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer, or comparable experience
• You have a related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience

Specific to Software Engineer

• You have expert knowledge in technologies such as React, Node, PHP, MySQL, Swift, Java, and Python
• You have 7+ years of application development experience

Specific to Android

• You have multiple years of experience in Android development, and have gone through the full lifecycle of releasing applications on the Play Store
• You have experience with Kotlin, Dagger, Retrofit, OkHttP, and RxJava / RxKotlin
• You have experience writing unit tests and testable code
• You're familiar with build and release procedures and tools (e.g., gradle, app bundles, gitlab CI / CD, play developer console)
• You're familiar with analyzing memory and performance issues using profiling tools

Specific to iOS

• You have multiple years of experience in iOS development, and have gone through the full lifecycle of releasing applications on the App Store
• You have experience in Swift development
• You have experience writing unit tests and testable code
• You're familiar with build and release procedures and tools (e.g., xcodebuild, gitlab CI/CD, certificates and provisioning profiles, App Store Connect)
• You're familiar with analyzing memory and performance issues using profiling tools

Specific to Engineer in Test

• You have expert knowledge in technologies such as Selenium, TestNG, and Mocha
• You have 7+ years of experience in automated testing
