Who You'll Work With

You’ll work in our Houston office as part of the Energy Insights team, focusing on oil & gas in North America.

Founded in 2012, Energy Insights is a thought leader across the energy sector and our research and analysis yield knowledge available nowhere else. We have a track record of successfully delivering our insights and solutions to clients across the entire energy value chain, including E&P, refining, renewable fuels, natural gas, hydrogen, power and renewables. You will work together with our leading energy practitioners in collaboration with experts across Sustainability and adjacent industries in our market intelligence and performance improvement teams.

Our market intelligence and performance improvement teams support energy players’ strategic and investment decisions. In market intelligence, we turn data into meaningful insights to help energy players around the world identify opportunities, mitigate risk and validate their business strategy. Our performance improvement teams combine industry expertise with performance benchmarks, diagnostic tools and analytics, helping energy and oil and gas companies drive portfolio and business improvement.

What You'll Do

You will work with client project teams from across the globe on modeling and market monitoring for natural gas markets. 

In this role you will contribute to the development of knowledge and client services focused in the areas of unconventional oil and gas and midstream in North America. As an analyst, you will monitor the key trends in North American gas market. You will maintain, update and improve Energy Insights’ underlying models. You will also support the global Oil & Gas practice with the development of market insights along with supporting client servicing activities. As a subject matter expert, you will provide advice on consulting teams for gas related topics leveraging Energy Insights advanced analytics.

You will develop your consulting expertise and networks at the intersection of two dynamic sectors. McKinsey’s oil & gas clients currently face major decisions on new investments and operating practices. You will work with leading oil & gas companies, tackling topics central to the CEO agenda such as global supply and demand, operational performance improvement and investment strategies. You will also help some of the world’s leading private equity firms to identify and assess acquisitions in this sector. This includes gathering the information necessary to develop tools and synthesizing your findings into McKinsey formatted products. These products may be in the form of complex models and summary reports which evolve into standalone presentations that outline key findings and recommendations to internal and external audiences.

You will work in teams of typically 3-5 consultants, playing an active role in all aspects of the client engagement. This includes gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses and developing communication and recommendations. You’ll also present results to client management and implement recommendations in collaboration with client team members.

You will receive McKinsey’s world-class formal training designed to strengthen your consulting capability and sector knowledge. You will also benefit from extensive on-the-job coaching as part of the client engagement process.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, economics or other mathematically rigorous discipline; master’s degree preferred
  • 2+ years of industry experience with consulting, research and analytics or industry serving oil and gas clients
  • Industry or academic experience in applying data collection and microeconomic and financial modeling to the areas of natural gas exploration and production, refining, midstream, trading and/or marketing activities
  • Clear understanding of the oil & gas value chain, with previous work experience in oil & gas strongly preferred
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an ability to take initiative and operate with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
