We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer / Business Analyst (m/f/d) in Underwriting Portfolio Performance Management, based in Munich.

The Impact You Will Have 

Reporting to the Head of Portfolio Information, you will play a key role in the development of portfolio steering approaches and tools for AGCS’ lines of business. You will work with business users across the underwriting function to design concepts, tools, and processes to improve the quality of AGCS’ portfolio. You will engage with stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate this into business solutions that create value and increase the profitability of the portfolio. Further, you will play an active role in the AGCS Underwriting transformation by implementing advanced analytics and statistical methods to help building the future of insurance business.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include

  • Develop portfolio steering tools across multiple lines of business – including profitability analysis, target setting, KPI monitoring, and reporting – to assist UW strategy portfolio steering and decision making.
  • Drive solutions based on business problems: discover and capture data requirements from business stakeholders, translate business requirements into a working code; work with business users and owners to determine which capabilities and features are driving value.
  • Support the implementation and translation of strategy in concrete underwriting actions – with impact to pricing, volatility management, and risk accumulation.
  • Assure accuracy of data processing and outputs through consistently high software development skills, adherence to best practice, thorough testing, and peer reviews; rapidly iterate on solutions and configurations in the platform.
  • Operationalize data analytics tools by guiding and mentoring business users to become self-sufficient practitioners; proactively provide demos, training, and support to underwriters and other users.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • High experience with programming, scripting, or statistical packages (Python, SQL, R, Matlab; Java is a plus); some visualization/reporting/dashboarding skills (Javascript/HTML5/CSS). 
  • Min 5 years of significant experience in product design and data analytics, programming, and risk modelling and thus qualified analytical skills (ability to analyze highly complex data from multiple sources; identify and resolve issues).
  • Experience working within the agile development environment – managing data and projects using this methodology; you should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to consistently revise approach in response to new information; effectively work together with various team members when gathering requirements, delivering solutions, and eliciting suggestions and feedback.
  • Communication & Presentation: Excellent English written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex in a simple way to understand terminology; express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally; be able to “sell” an improvised or prepared audience a winning story.
