We are looking for an Underwriter Marine Hull with focus on brown water segment (m/f/d) – based in Hamburg.

Your Team 

Our team is committed to closely work together and support each other to represent AGCS in an active way within the market. You will be part of a true diverse team of 7 Underwriters who support on all sublines of Marine Hull and who foster a flexible and successful working environment. 

The Impact You Will Have 

At AGCS we combine specialist expertise and global reach with high levels of AA rated underwriting capacity to industry specific exposures. This allows us to establish a reputation as leaders of some of the largest and most complex Marine Hull risks in the market.

Reporting to Head of Hull CEE you will work closely with clients and brokers to develop personalized solutions as well as developing new relationships. You will be responsible for underwriting profitable new and renewal business to meet portfolio targets regionally including global elements. Your responsibilities also include negotiating participation, pricing and terms & conditions, acquiring new business and retaining existing business.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include

  • Underwrite in line with Marine governance framework - e.g. Underwriting Authorities, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles
  • Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception
  • Drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including Market Management, Risk Consulting, Claims, Operations
  • Manage referrals from underwriters and re-underwrite complex business as appropriate
  • Contribute to the development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for Marine Hull 
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with key producers and clients and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. risk managers)
  • Ensure accurate policy documentation is issued to producers (where it is AGCS’ responsibility to do so) or producers has issued documentation (where producer responsibility).

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • You have a degree either in Economics, Finance, Insurance Market management, or Business Administration
  • You are CII qualified or equivalent or working towards it
  • You have at least 3 years’ experience as an Underwriter, Broker or relevant equivalent in the Marine sector, preferably in Marine Hull including Brown Water
  • Ability to assess risk inherent exposures relevant to the product
  • Analyse current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business and customer needs
  • You have a robust understanding of the policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, and cancellation
  • You can express ideas and messages clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to create relationships and communicate at all levels and with a wide range of people
  • Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority
  • You embrace agile working and engage in constant learning, to adapt to internal and external customer needs
  • Ability to effectively absorb information from various sources, then analyse, study or examine data in detail, and draw appropriate conclusions
  • German and English fluently
