General Notes

Position will end effective six months from start date. Subsequent renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.

Job Purpose

To independently bring advanced collaborative skills and extensive knowledge of classical and modern statistical methodology and applications so as to provide professional statistical support for animal, genetic, and sociological research in the lab of Dr. Michela Marinelli for the Department of Neuroscience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement mathematical or statistical analysis for complex data sets involving multiple variables (some nested and some not), transcriptomics studies, sociology studies, and psychometric scales.
  • Prepare and present reports of findings including graphical displays and collaborate on the development of reports and manuscripts for peer-review and for statistical components of protocols for scientific or IRB review, to accurately summarize study design, methods, analysis plans and interpretation of results. 
  • Participate in the development of research study designs and conduct their analyses and sample size and power calculations
  • Ensure appropriateness and applicability of mathematical, statistical, or research techniques utilized, and contribute towards rigorous evaluation and validation.
  • Participate in development of novel quantitative approaches, or customization of statistical methods per project needs. 
  • Identify areas giving rise to particular methodological challenges, search the (bio)statistical literature to generate solutions to those challenges, articulate methodological limitations, and propose avenues for methodological innovation.

Required Qualifications

  • Master degree in Statistics or Biostatistics or very closely related field, with major coursework in statistics.
  • At least two years of statistical collaborative experience.
  • Ability to perform descriptive data analysis, statistical modeling for univariate and multivariate data, clustered, longitudinal, and time-to-event data.
  • Ability to search, read, vet and stay abreast of the (bio)statistical methodological literature. Interest in learning about diverse areas of biomedical and preclinical studies, genetics, and sociological sciences.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with literature searches. Demonstrated ability to use complex excel formulas, and create macros.
  • Professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than the required experience in a research lab.
  • Experience in machine-learning.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills, both oral and written.

Salary Range

$50,000+ depending on qualifications
