The University of Washington School of Nursing is pleased to announce a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Global Health and Health Equity to start in 2023. The purpose of the post-doctoral position is to prepare individuals for research careers in universities. The post-doctoral fellow will join a multidisciplinary team of mentors and collaborators to support scholarship and career development. Support is for one year of training with a second year of funding available based on receipt of additional funds.

The Research in Nursing and Global Health (RiNGH) training program; funded by the National Institute for Nursing Research (T32 NR019761) and coordinated by the school’s Center for Global Health Nursing and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; prepares nurse scientists with knowledge and skills to advance global health equity through team-based, interdisciplinary research. Research in this field recognizes that health issues transcend national borders and seeks to understand public health problems, inform health interventions, optimize health services and systems, and promote health. Within the United States, innovative global solutions and approaches can be adopted to address local health concerns.

Program Aims

The post-doctoral fellow will:

• Learn theories, methods, and skills necessary to conduct global health equity research
• Develop research expertise through experiences with interdisciplinary teams, exposure to and immersion in ongoing research activities, and structured feedback and critique
• Receive mentoring in the ethical conduct of research, inclusive of diverse vulnerable populations

Qualifications

• Complete a PhD in Nursing Science degree or related field after 2019 and by the time the position starts.
• Completion of a BS in Nursing or higher.
• Be eligible for U.S. employment. Updated due to newly released presidential executive order amendment to Proclamation 10014 on June 22, 2020.
• Only citizens or permanent residents of the US are eligible to apply.
• Show evidence of a program of research that is aligned with global health and/or health equity.

• Applicants are invited to submit a cover letter, letters of recommendation, resume, transcript, and 1-2 pieces of sample writing (e.g. articles, grants).
• Three letters of recommendation, Letters should address the applicants’ scholarly abilities, area for growth, and future potential in academia. 
• Applicant’s cover letter should include responses to the following items. Each item has a maximum of 200 words. Please include an explanation of how your research interests and expertise align with program focus in global health and health equity.
• Applications will be reviewed beginning February October 1, 2022.
