The Houston Texans are seeking an individual for the position of Human Resources Generalist.

Basic Function: 

  • Responsible for performing various tasks related to various human resources department functions including, but not limited to, recruiting and selection, onboarding, employee relations, document maintenance and retention and various other administrative duties within the department.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Perform as the lead HR representative for assigned departments in the management and execution of all employment-related activities, with duties to include, but not be limited to:
  • Participate in the recruiting process for assigned departments with duties to include, but not be limited to: meeting with the hiring manager to establish staff needs, identifying key skills required for position to be applied to structured interview process, creation or update of job description, posting of job on Club employment website and/or working with other employment staffing personnel, scheduling and conducting phone and in-person interviews, and producing job offer documentation.
  • Conduct the new hire orientation process for teammates in assigned departments by preparing the new hire gift bag, office name plate, and standard office supply set up, submitting a work order for office cleaning prior to first day, introducing the new hire to current employees while providing him/her with a tour of the office and assistance in obtaining office access credential at NRG Center. 
  • Work directly with the hiring managers of assigned departments on all performance management and employee relations matters of full-time and part-time staff, with duties to include, but not limited to, communicating with managers on regular basis to determine any performance management matters to be addressed, ensuring all time worked is being processed on a timely basis and submitting all paperwork required for onboarding new employees or changes to current employees in the system.
  • Participate in the overall new hire process by completing all tasks on the New Hire, Change and Termination Checklists.
  • Participate in the onboarding process of designated full-time employees making sure that all onboarding activities have been completed by designated parties in order to maintain individual task and overall process deadlines.
  • Manage and perform the background check process for newly hired full-time and part-time employees, execute Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) procedures as may be required and stay abreast of all changing rules and regulations in order for Club to maintain compliance.
  • Perform as department contact for the ordering and sending of flowers or other celebratory or condolence items for teammates in assigned departments. 
  • Assist in administering health and welfare benefit plans to include medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance coverages, with duties to include:
  • Assist with coordinating and conducting annual open enrollment for health and welfare coverages (medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts) pursuant to plan provisions. 
  • Reconcile and process for payment monthly invoices and prepare necessary documentation for accounts payable purposes. 
  • Interact as necessary with benefit consultants or carriers for account management. 
  • Update and provide to Accounting a monthly report for general ledger recording purposes. 
  • Administer COBRA for health and welfare plan participants, with duties to include, but not be limited to:
  • Advise COBRA vendor on an annual basis of updated health care and dental premiums.
  • Arrange with vendor for required COBRA notifications to be sent to all new and terminating employees in compliance with federal and state regulations. 
  • Administer or provide information to employees on certain other employee benefit or perquisites sponsored by the Club, to include, but not be limited to employee complimentary tickets, employee merchandise discount and various other perquisites.
  • Volunteers - Manage the process of obtaining and maintaining appropriate paperwork for volunteers for LSSE Texas Bowl (DePelchin Children’s Center) events and/or games.
  • Document Management System (Laserfiche) - Manage the department electronic filing system with duties to include, but not limited to, training all department staff on use of the system, communicating with IT personnel on necessary changes or additions to the application and overseeing the purge of terminated employee information in compliance with the department’s document retention policy. 
  • Send out timely notices to appropriate employee groups with regard to office holiday reminders, office closures, park event announcements, reminders as necessary, etc., as assigned. 
  • Independent Contractors - Work with Vice President, Human Resources and the legal department facilitating various independent contractor service agreements obtaining all necessary paperwork from independent contractors, processing invoices with Accounting for timely payment and maintaining accurate documentation in the document management system. 
  • Order and maintain inventory of all new hire gift items. 
  • Order all office supplies for department and maintain supply of all routinely used supplies.
  • One Texans - Lead the Club’s teambuilding committee with duties to include, but not be limited to:
  • Create and manage the operational budget. 
  • In participation with other committee members, develop the annual curriculum and manage the execution of events. 
  • Schedule regular committee meetings with duties to include developing meeting agendas and distributing action items after meetings as well as team building for the committee. 
  • Monitor and update the One Texans intranet page in order to keep it updated and relevant. 
  • Hold designated project leaders accountable for all event responsibilities through after-action review. 
  • Perform an annual after-action review of the program and provide an annual summary and reconciliation of program effectiveness to management. 
  • Routinely monitor One Texans email box.
  • Manage the monthly employee birthday announcement process with duties to include, but not be limited to, compiling the accurate listing of employee birthdays for the month from the weekly updated master employee list, arranging for IT to post the monthly birthday announcement on or before the first day of each month, sending out individual birthday emails to employees on a delayed-send basis, ordering the cake through Aramark, hosting the cake cutting event and distributing the photo by email to all staff. 
  • Human Resources Information and Payroll System - Achieve high level of proficiency in navigation of the human resources information system in order to effectively conduct recruiting and onboarding tasks and to develop reports as required.
  • Form I-9-- - Perform as the department expert on Form 19 compliance, staying abreast of all laws and sharing updates and/or changes with the HR team to ensure continued strict compliance by the Club for all teammates.
  • Staff listings for Club publications – Create comprehensive listing of staff members for all the various Club publications (e.g., Yearbook, Gameday Magazine, Media Guide) as a way of conveying updated information in a timely, efficient manner to all parties requiring this information. 
  • Maintain on an ongoing basis the employee recognition spreadsheet and ensure that all monetary awards are processed by providing timely necessary documentation to payroll for processing. 
  • Assist Vice President, Human Resources, Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Manager and another departmental teammates as necessary or as assigned in the planning and execution of all department special projects or events (e.g., open enrollment, Gameday Camp, employee meetings, training sessions, college visits, job fairs).
  • Provide exceptional internal and external customer service by providing timely, accurate information in response to HR-related inquiries and/or requests.
  • Actively participate in communicating, monitoring and administering all federal and state laws Club and League policies.
  • Assist as necessary in the preparation of the annual departmental budget. 
  • Provide departmental support for the annual United Way campaign by producing and issuing electronic election forms, collecting employee contributions and employee match information for providing to United Way representatives and to executive management, assisting the campaign chair and co-chair with various campaign events and submitting necessary documentation to payroll for payroll deductions. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of all employment information and comply with all mandated privacy requirements.
  • Perform various other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Vice President, Human Resources, Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Manager.
  • Subject to reasonable accommodations, position requires routine face-to-face personal interaction with departmental and other Club teammates; therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in the Club offices and not in a telecommuting manner.

Skills Required: 

  • Basic knowledge of employment practices, employee benefit administration and recruiting and selection skills.
  • Working knowledge of company Human Resources and payroll systems, company intranet and other departmental or company systems applicable to position.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to successfully manage multiple tasks with multiple priorities in a high volume, high energy environment. 
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to create and maintain solid working relationships within the department and across the organization. 
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a data driven environment. 
  • Working knowledge of internet-based carrier sites for purposes of enrollment and termination of participant coverage, billing and reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate work within designated deadlines. 
  • Ability to work extended hours as may be required in order to meet established or last-minutes deadlines. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction to complete assigned work and individual goals. 
  • Willingness to work as a team member in order to accomplish established department goals. 
  • Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information.
  • Ability and internal drive to demonstrate a winning attitude and a strong work ethic in the performance of all job responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications

Travel requirements: Occasional local travel as may be required for corporate sponsor meetings department events and Club away games.

Educational Requirements: 

  • Completion of, or in pursuit of, Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university preferred.
  • SHRM/HRCI certification strongly preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Human Resources preferred.
