The Assistant Director of Global, Immersive and Professional (GIP) Programs provides the day-to-day management of academic and experiential programs for students, media professionals and international scholars. The Assistant Director will independently coordinate a portfolio of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media's instructional and co-curricular initiatives, including immersive experiences and professional development opportunities. The Assistant Director monitors expenditures and projects funding for GIP Programs budgets, including facilitating special activity funds, awards, and sponsored programs. The Assistant Director collects data and evaluates all programs under their purview. The incumbent will research, influence, and implement new program opportunities in alignment with the overall expansion strategy of GIP programs.The Global, Immersive and Professional Programs team is part of the Undergraduate Hub, a one-stop-shop for Hussman undergraduate students that includes GIP, academic advising and student engagement, and career services. This position reports to the Director of Global, Immersive and Professional Programs and collaborates with the undergraduate hub staff on programs and student administration. The Assistant Director role is highly cross-functional and collaborates with staff and faculty across UNC Hussman and across campus to create and administer global, immersive and professional programs.The Assistant Director manages projects in the three following areas:Immersive Programs - Experiential programs that are outside the normal confines of the classroom and facilitate a deep dive into the cultural, political, and other factors of the media and journalism education, such as the Washington Experience course and the Holding Power Accountable lecture series. This includes collaborating with faculty to shape itineraries, selecting and engaging with guest speakers, and program recruitment.Global Programs - The Assistant Director promotes Hussman global programs and advises Hussman students on incorporating a global experience into their time at UNC-Chapel Hill and beyond. The position incumbent independently coordinates a portfolio of short-term global immersions such as the Media in the U.K. and Media in Asia and International Projects courses; this includes working closely with faculty to manage logistics and design program itineraries, preparing faculty for student travel, and traveling with student groups to lead logistics and crises management. The Assistant Director works with the UNC Study Abroad Office on Hussman exchange partnerships, including managing the registration process for incoming exchange students. The position develops new initiatives to engage international students; coordinates the school's Visiting International Scholars program adhering to J-1 visa regulations and policies. The Assistant Director coordinates visits for international guests or delegations to the school such as Department of State IVLP groups or visitors through the Transatlantic Media Fellowship.Professional Programs - The Assistant Director works with faculty, corporate partners, and community organizations to design professional programs and trainings for students and working professionals, including the Bloomberg-UNC Business Journalism Diversity Programs that collaborates with Bloomberg News, UC, Berkeley, and City, University of London.This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, consistent with UNC-Chapel Hill policy. Employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
