The MBTA is opening a new Mobility Center in Boston that will assist seniors and people with disabilities in accessing and using a wide range of transportation services in the Boston area and cutting-edge support services offered at the Center. MTM Transit is looking for qualified candidates to be part of an exciting program and a dynamic multi-disciplinary team.

What Will Your Job Look Like?

The Travel Trainer will assess for appropriateness for independent public transportation use, create personalized lesson plans, and teach individuals a wide range of travel skills including trip planning, street crossing, bus and train travel, map and schedule reading, smart phone use, and safety skills, while utilizing public transportation. The Travel Trainer will provide outreach and make group presentations on public transit and community transit services and train staff at community organizations to then train their program participants. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Complete in-person intake and assessment for each applicant
  • Make determinations whether or not an applicant is qualified to receive training based on the results of the assessment(s)
  • Create and provide one-on-one, individualized field training
  • Demonstrate and instruct individuals on transit skills
  • Demonstrate and instruct individuals on how to travel routes including navigation and way-finding strategies
  • Instruct individuals on self-advocacy
  • Schedule training at the time and location of the specific routes requested
  • Create lesson plans that are appropriate for individuals of different learning levels
  • Provide in class and in-the-field training to professionals 
  • Provide outreach services to community organization in the service area
  • Research and identify opportunities to enhance the referral program within the community, creating custom presentations for this outreach
  • Conduct group presentations
  • Conduct outreach to develop materials
  • Establish relationships with professionals in the field, community and advocacy organizations
  • Complete all reports and paperwork including but not limited to; initial intake, goal setting and plan, progressive evaluation, pre and post-test, final and follow-up report, satisfaction survey
  • Must conform to MTM’s HIPAA standards

What You’ll need:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • At least two years’ experience working with people with disabilities through disability and/or community organizations
  • Familiarity with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Even better if you have...

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in education, Social Work, Human Services, or Healthcare
  • Travel training experience
  • Familiarity with the transit agency system
  • Ability to understand and empathize with the needs of individuals requesting service
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Demonstrated training skills, comfortable leading groups of people
  • Strong interpersonal skills that allow for effective working relationships
  • Intermediate level of proficiency or above with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, in all weather conditions
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality

Salary Min: $65,000.00 Annually

Salary Max: $80,000.00 Annually
