Hitachi ABB Power Grids is seeking Senior Technical Consultant - Industrial for our Power Consulting group headquartered in Raleigh North, Carolina. Power Consulting is focused on solving tomorrow’s power challenges today. Our business in North America is expanding and this is a brand-new position. Your responsibilities

  • As a valuable and critical member of the consulting team, you will
  • Plan, conduct and coordinate planning and operations studies, including integration of renewables and energy storage systems.
  • Design and develop computer models for simulation of power systems and conduct independent studies and research encompassing advanced analytical techniques.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations supporting the findings of the above studies.
  • Participate in customer meetings and interface with customers on technical matters.
  • Serve as technical consultant and advisor for clients.
  • Serve on industry committees and associations as appropriate.
  • Identify areas of innovation for system and business needs, propose practical solutions, and assist with implementation of project plans and business decisions.

Your background

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration on Power Systems/Power Distribution and 8 years’ experience performing Protection Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash Analysis & EMT Studies or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration on Power Systems/Power Distribution and 6 years’ experience performing Protection Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash Analysis & EMT Studies or PhD in in Electrical Engineering with a concentration on Power Systems/Power Distribution and 5 years’ experience performing Protection Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash Analysis & EMT Studies.
  • This role can be filled at the more junior level should the candidate meet the following criteria.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration on Power Systems/Power Distribution and 5 years’ experience performing Protection Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash Analysis & EMT Studies or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration on Power Systems/Power Distribution and 3 years’ experience performing Protection Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash Analysis & EMT Studies or PhD in in Electrical Engineering with a concentration on Power Systems/Power Distribution and <2 years’ experience performing Protection Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash Analysis & EMT Studies.
  • Proficient in at least two standard Power System Modelling Software suites required.
  • Ability to read, correctly interpret, and apply electrical/protection one-lines, schematics, and instruction manuals required.
  • Must be able to develop proposals including a scope of work that details the established goals and objectives and clearly defines the deliverables and schedule of work to be performed.
  • Ability to analyze results and develop conclusions on problems being studied.
  • Willingness to work in a multi-task environment and work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate within the organization and outside with clients.
  • Must have good PC skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Ability to perform power system studies using standard software tools such as:
  • ETAP, PSS/E, PSLF, CYME, SKM, ASPEN, etc. Areas of analysis will include load flow for thermal and voltage assessment, fault studies for relay protection assessment, and dynamics for transient and steady state stability assessment. Mastery of at least two software expected a plus.
  • Professional Engineering License or the ability to acquire within 6 months of hiring preferred.
  • Capable of developing technical reports/proposals, project estimates and providing technical guidance/recommendations to customers for system protection and power system related issues to ensure proper system operation preferred.
  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi ABB Power Grids in the United States.
