Hitachi Energy is seeking a Tender Manager – Construction & Commissioning for its Raleigh, NC location to support our HVDC (High Energy Direct Current) business. HVDC is a business unit within Hitachi Energy with headquarters in Ludvika – develops, manufactures, and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. This Hitachi Energy developed HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. HVDC is also used to connect power systems. The C&C Tendering Manager has the responsibility to prepare an accurate, competitive, and coherent Cost Calculations for the C&C’s Scope within the Tender Project, by adhering to the internal HVDC and C&C process for Site Management, Civil-Construction, Installation and for Commissioning. This is realized through close co-operation with ALL Company internal Tendering Team Members and as applicable with the external Potential-Subcontractors. It includes preparation of reliable inputs, calculated, and structured in transparent way. The prepared Tender is submitted to HVDC’s Sales Department in timely manner.

Your responsibilities

  • Adhere to C&C’s internal processes with flexibility to adapt solutions to project specifics.
  • Attend Project Kick-off Meeting and ALL Core Tender Team Meetings as C&C representative.
  • Obtain and check for completeness and correctness of all relevant Tender information, to comply with both internal processes and Client requirements.
  • Communicate with relevant Engineering Teams for clarification of scope and technical issues.
  • Communicate with Sales Department for clarification of commercial issues.
  • Maintain understanding of the Tender’s technical evolution including Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
  • Communicates & discusses the BOQ to relevant C&C’s Discipline Leaders for calculation of man-hours.
  • Compare man-hours with similar projects and investigate differences
  • Analyze customer specifications and internal engineering documentation with regard to C&C Scope by seeking advice and support from HVDC’s HSE, Quality and Planning teams, as well as from the C&C’s Technology Departments. Communicate results of analysis and the respective cost impacts to the C&C’s Core Management Team.
  • Translates the Request for Bid requirements to adequate C&C Supervision needs for the project by seeking the advice of the relevant C&C Line Managers and includes/considers the same into the Cost Calculation.
  • Implements all possible changes resulting from Tender Review Meeting and seeks approval as per HVDC’s Approval-Process.
  • Prepares all C&C relevant Tender-Project specific Documentation as per HVDC requirements, seeks approval as per HVDC’s Approval-Process and submits the same together with the approved Cost Calculation.
  • Participate in handover of successful Tenders to Project Execution.
  • Involvement in C&C continuous improvement process of internal documentation and information database improvement.
  • Strictly observe and implement the business HSE and Quality policy as well as all company rules.

Your background

  • Bachelor or master-degree in a technical discipline, preferably Civil Engineering and 10 years working experience, with 5 years of experience working in HVDC Construction and/or similar business.
  • Postgraduate study/courses in economics and commercial management would be a plus.
  • Substantial experience and knowledge of multidiscipline scopes of work.
  • General Knowledge of planning and scheduling.
  • Business and commercial awareness and knowledge.
  • Understanding of risks identification and mitigations.
  • Maintains a global perspective and thinking.
  • Able to be an integral part of a team.
  • Able to think strategically, creative, and innovative.
  • Achievement and goal orientated.
  • Ability to act independently.
  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and in written English.
