We are looking for a research scientist with expertise in data analytics and stochasticity to join our team in Mannheim/DE. You will join a dynamic, motivated and creative team with a broad range of experience and competences. As part of our team, you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition

Your responsibilities

  • Propose, contribute to and lead industrial research projects applying data analytics, stochastic modelling, artificial intelligence, machine learning to the next generations of products and systems for power grids, green energy and related fields.
  • Collaborate with our global team of researchers in Hitachi Energy Research and our business units to identify and solve complex research challenges for our customers through expertise of data analytics and statistics.
  • Serve as the statistics and stochasticity domain expert in interdisciplinary teams of power systems, mathematical optimization, data science, AI, and SW experts
  • Propose and work on ideas and concepts of new approaches to create, run and exploit data analytics solutions with business impact, turn them into prototypes and verify them.
  • Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise.
  • Collaborate with our Hitachi Energy business units and research centers, universities, and industrial partners.
  • Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.

Your background

  • Masters or PhD degree or equivalent industrial experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or any related field.
  • Expertise in statistics and stochasticity e.g., stochastic processes and forecasting.
  • Experience with Bayesian analysis, probabilistic modeling, neural networks, deep learning and time-series forecasting (amongst others).
  • Proficiency in programming - python and/or similar high-level programming language is a must; AMPL, pyomo, GAMS, c++, c#, Julia and and Deep Learning Frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of mathematical optimization is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge or interest to enlarge power system knowledge.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, team player attitude, initiative, and creativity.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
