Hitachi Energy is seeking a Product Owner for its Houston, Texas location or remote locations throughout the United States. This role is accountable for setting and managing the development priorities for Enterprise Software product delivery team(s) and will play the role of customer for these delivery teams. For this reason, the product owner needs to be readily available to the delivery team (~80%) and will be embedded within the Agile team. The Product Owner will understand Enterprise Software customers as well as the broader industry and business strategy.

Your responsibilities

  • Ensure the Product Backlog for the nominated product development team is created and prioritized Participate in Story writing (especially the acceptance criteria)
  • Participate in daily stand ups
  • Maintain a good knowledge of software development
  • Develop a deep understanding of the customer’s needs
  • Perform acceptance testing to accept or reject the Agile team’s work results.
  • In collaboration with the Product Manager, set a clear vision and Release Plan for the product(s)
  • Constantly re-prioritize (groom) the Product Backlog based on customer feedback, market changes and business priority.
  • Facilitate Weekly Backlog Grooming meetings with Agile Team
  • Communicate Product Vision and Roadmap to Agile team
  • Meet with product manager (at least) weekly to revisit product priorities
  • Participate in Release Planning Sessions with Product Management.
  • Working with the product delivery team(s) to provide clear vision, direction and priority of the Product Backlog
  • Attend all required Scrum meetings (Sprint Planning, Product Backlog Grooming, Sprint Review)
  • Provide the delivery team feedback on ’completed’ user stories at the end of each Sprint
  • Review product vision and strategy with product manager regularly (weekly)
  • Provide the delivery team clear information on customers and potential customers including how they use the product, why they use the product, who uses it, when they use it and with whom.
  • Establish open lines of communication with customers in order to bridge the relationship between product development and customers.
  • Ensure Enterprise Software is developing products that exceed customer expectations.
  • Ensure that Enterprise Software products deliver a superior user experience
  • In collaboration with product management, contribute to the development of the product roadmap to deliver the agreed product(s) in line with Enterprise Software business strategy
  • Communicating the roadmap and technology vision with the delivery Team(s).
  • Application of techniques to establish, motivate and retain high performance software development and testing teams
  • Facilitating knowledge transfer within the team alongside encourage and coaching a culture of knowledge sharing.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 8+ years of experience OR
  • Master’s degree and a minimum 6+ years of experience.
  • Experience in utility and power markets including trading, resource optimization, ISO communications, scheduling and settlements would be advantageous.
  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Experienced in Agile and Scrum
  • Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
  • Experience in software product development
  • Demonstrable knowledge of software development lifecycles and activities.
  • A strong understanding of software Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum
  • A clear ability to manage a range of different personality types in a facilitative and mature manner
  • Strong relationship building skills including the ability to relate constructively to all levels of the organization.
  • Strong listening and written and oral communication skills.
  • A proven ability to plan, undertake and finish activities to achieve high quality results.
  • The desire to be part of, and to contribute to, a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to keeping sensitive information confidential
  • Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical addressees
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed.
