As an intern engineer, you will work in the Power Grids department in Mannheim in the field of Grid In-tegration. As power generation sources are increasingly distributed, intermittent and volatile, achieving the necessary levels of control and performance requires a smarter, more efficient and more reliable grid. If you are ready to take on the technological challenges in the field of grid automation, specifically the development of digital substations, then an equally exciting and dynamic time awaits you. Work as part of an international R&D team of engineers on a system-wide communication infrastructure used by Hitachi Energy to monitor substations and similar installations.

Your responsibilities

• Manage a test rack in a laboratory:
• Searching for solutions to integrate or/and simulate new hardware on the rack, by investiga-tion of datasheets, technical documents and by meeting professionals
• Installation, commissioning and upgrade of various equipment and associate communica-tion infrastructure
• Operate tests according to the system components of our partners:
• Organize & run tests with predefined steps and objectives (devices functionality, communi-cation, performance, cyber security compliance...)
• Concurrence with cross functional engineers across the global organization
• Develop the documentation and definition of various test procedures:
• Maintain the test procedure documentation, a file representing one generic procedure for all tests
• Fill the test protocol documentation, which is multiple files describing individual tests in de-tail including the material used, the applicable mechanical & electrical diagrams, the detailed steps of the test in question as well as the results.
• Create feedback documents, i.e. multiple files summarizing individual results or errors that occurred during a test, completed with explanations for follow-up investigations.

Your background

• Bachelor or Master student in electrical engineering, instrumentation, automation, IoT or other compa-rable study.
• General knowledge of Power Grid and in the field of digitalization and automation.
• Motivated and committed personality, who likes to work on the development of solutions and their successful implementation.
• An autonomous person, capable of carrying out the required activities in an international environment.
• You like working in an international team.
• Fluent spoken and written English is essential.
• Conversational level German skills are beneficial.
