Hitachi Energy is seeking an Applications Engineer – Substations for its Raleigh, NC location. Hiring manager is prioritizing skills and experience over physical work location. As an Application Engineer, your main task will be to support Marketing & Sales in North America building long term customer relationships, identifying, and developing sales opportunities. You will represent the Sales department in various tender and project teams managing technical solutions, customer needs, promote customer understanding and awareness of Prefabricated solutions. Daily, you will collaborate with other departments during the entire tender process. As Application Engineer, you will ensure timely, optimized, cost-effective solutions in accordance with standard processes, procedures, and safety guidelines. Most of the work as Application Engineer is in pre-tender phase interacting with customers, consultants, and project team members. The Application Engineer will also work in close cooperation with R&D, coordinating new base solutions required for tenders and contribute to defining market requirements for R&D projects.

Your responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains long-term relationships with customers (and key external stakeholders) to understand needs, promote customer understanding and awareness of full product/systems/services offerings, and align to provide a solution.
  • Ensures efficient marketing activities and value proposition to the customer
  • Communicates efficiently with customers and other stakeholders (TSOs, consultants, among others)
  • Works closely with our Front-End Sales organization to leverage relationships and the Hitachi Energy portfolio.
  • Ensures a positive customer experience throughout the sales process
  • Seeks optimized technical solutions resourcefully, collaborating with broad Hitachi Energy Prefabricated Delivery teams
  • Creates added value for the customer and Hitachi Energy by using innovation and experience from installed projects. Communicates details in accordance with Hitachi Energy offering and strategy
  • Accountable for the technical solution in tenders and will have a technical coordinating role in tenders
  • Builds and supports team for development of competencies and employees in North America
  • Supports and participates in market communications: seminars, conference events, publications
  • Supports Sales in Capture Team activities and is generally part of Capture Team

Your background

  • Bachelors of Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and a minimum 8 years of experience in tender/project work within Substation applications (Prefabricated Substations experience preferred).
  • Experience from building and maintaining relationships with customers for substation solutions.
  • Customer focus and ability to gather information and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, and related industry.
  • Extensive experience from substation projects including 3D design, calculations, and documentation.
  • Is a design authority for Prefabricated solutions.
  • As a technical lead – evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to provide solutions. Ability to recommend new practices and techniques.
  • Has interdisciplinary substation design knowledge regarding civil, structural, Protection and Control.
  • Ability to create Single Line Diagrams, Bill of Materials, Major Equipment Specifications, and list of technical deviations.
  • Ability to create layouts utilizing 3D software (Revit preferred.)
  • Ability to provide engineering project schedule and engineering estimate.
  • Ability to perform technical risk analysis and provide mitigation strategies during tendering.
  • On-site substation project experience including installation and supervision.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and within budgets.
  • Ability to maintain an overview of entire projects/bids while continuing to attend to detailed technicalities.
  • Negotiating, supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Availability to travel up to 25%.
  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
