Hitachi Energy is seeking to fill one position for a Project Engineer for its Mount Pleasant, PA location. This role is responsible for performing a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge High Voltage Substations and Equipment, plus an understanding of related disciplines to cost effectively achieve objectives. Technical leader on full-service packages that require HV product replacements, substation arrangement modification or expansion, including but not limited to High Voltage Circuit Breakers, Instrument Transformers, Gas Insulated Substations, Protection and Control and auxiliary systems. Your responsibilities

  • Be a matter expert for the HV Service business for switchgear arrangements, protection and control, system engineering.
  • Participate on kick-off meetings and assume technical leadership for projects under own responsibility.
  • Prepare statement of work, specifications, basic design, BOMs, test plans and related engineering documents in accordance with requirements, established formats and general instructions.
  • Design and develop models to optimize project requirements and apply advanced computer programs to effectively meet requirements and resolve problems.
  • Analyze, design, and evaluate systems, products, or components, including High Voltage Circuit Breakers, Instrument Transformers, Gas Insulated Substations, Protection and Control and auxiliary systems.
  • Modify or mark-up drawings as required, communicate with drafters (in-house or outsourced) as to produce detailed and high-quality drawing packages.
  • Act as principal investigator or lead a group of engineers investigating problems, developing solutions and preparing related recommendations and reports. Lead or assist High Voltage Service with root cause analysis of product or system failures
  • Collaborates on project installation, commissioning, and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions to correct engineering errors. Provides technical support to commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Conduct economic studies and prepare or lead the preparation of specifications, proposals for contracts, licensing, and safety documents, and obtain required approvals.
  • Represent the group in meetings and conferences; interact with customers to resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.
  • Provide sporadic sales support with engineering estimates. Assists in performing engineering risk analysis before submitting proposal.
  • Supports Contract Manager in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.)
  • Implement and propose actions to improve quality and project margins, and reduction of COPQ - Cost of Poor Quality.

Your background

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering plus 5 or more years of experience with power systems, high voltage substation equipment and protection & control.
  • Knowledge of Power Systems, Substations and High Voltage equipment (69kV..800kV),
  • Requires ability to interface effectively, internally and with customers.
  • Willingness to travel as needed 10-20%.
  • Position is based at our Mount Pleasant, PA location. Hiring manager open to remote work a few days a week.
  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
