Our R&D engineers and scientists develop breakthrough technologies that change the way the world works, and industries do business. We constantly push the limits of convention, while retaining our focus on delivering solid returns for our customers and shareholders. We are looking for candidates for the position of R&D Scientist to perform research in the field of material science. The specific areas may include machine learning, material informatics, battery electric storage systems, green hydrogen energy systems, electrochemistry, etc. You will be part of the Hitachi ABB Power Grids Research team to develop cutting edge material technologies for power transmission and distribution products to realize the vision of a “net zero” world.

Your responsibilities

• You will introduce and spread materials informatics culture within Hitachi ABB Power Grids and build a highly efficient system of computer-supported material development.
• You will work on new energy related material topics, such as batteries, hydrogen, CCUS, etc.
• You will collect, analyze and utilize material data in Hitachi ABB Power Grids.
• You will develop insulating materials, metal materials and dielectric materials for T&D application.
• You will identify new ideas, initiate new projects and ensure relevant IP protection.
• You will execute projects as project leader or key project member.
• You will network with colleagues in Hitachi ABB Power Grids globally, our product development units, and Hitachi Research in China and globally.
• Living core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Your background

• A PhD or MSc in computational material science, computational chemistry, cheminformatics or a related field.
• Experience in one of the following areas is a strong plus: numerical modeling, data-driven material study, machine learning, batteries, electrochemistry, hydrogen.
• Solid knowledge background and project execution experience.
• Capable to run projects independently with excellent project planning, execution and management.
• Outstanding communication skills, task ownership, and analytical capabilities.
• Fluent spoken and written English as working language.
