Purpose Statement: The Director of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) will create vision, scope the initiatives, align stakeholders, and define the roadmap for Plexus’ MES solutions. This role will be the manufacturing voice within the IT prioritization and development organizations. This role is accountable to ensure we have operational methods among these teams, which lean out the definition, development, testing and deployment of solutions. 

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Architect the global vision and strategy that continuously innovates and evolves Plexus’ Manufacturing Systems addressing customer and business needs in Business Intelligence, Product Configuration and Management, Production Control, Production Monitors and Production Maintenance & Calibration, Capacity planning, Material Deployment and Production Scheduling systems. Lead through influence a global network to successfully execute the strategy across all levels, global, regional, site.
  • Scope and define Plexus’ digital factory, which creates value from data streams, control loops and intelligent automation. Solutions shall be flexible and modular to allow for scale. 
  • Lead and engage stakeholders in Manufacturing Systems strategy formulation to achieve alignment and consensus; demonstrate through metrics and execution how the strategy transforms Plexus in Customer Service Excellence and Operational Excellence and creating an operating execution process that is agile and efficient.
  • Build the Manufacturing Systems Teams capability, through articulating the vision, establishing standard work, managing development plans, mentoring high potentials, and coaching talent throughout the manufacturing systems network to ensure that the organizations skill as well as peoples’ career needs are meet.
  • Build the reputation in the EMS industry as the most advanced manufacturing execution systems where customers want to benchmark against through early adoption of new/emerging technologies and effective and common deployment.
  • Accountable to execute on Plexus’ Best People strategy, with focus on evaluating potential, driving succession planning and ensuring that their employees receive the development and coaching required to realize their full potential.

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Architect the system of governance to define the roadmap with broad range of stakeholders for incrementally improving, consolidating, obsoleting, or sun setting our systems, system integration and data integrity to progressively support achievement of operational excellence.
  • Put in place governance mechanisms to check the ongoing needs of users are being met. This includes the use of continuous improvement tools.
  • Manage to the metrics that reveal to what extent we are able to support global customers/suppliers with global, automated, and standardized systems that facilitate ease of doing business with Plexus, decrease variation and eliminate opportunities for human error.
  • Establish, build and maintain effective relationships with Global IT, Site IT, Global Engineering and Regional Engineering and Site Engineering
  • Enable an infrastructure of super users who can support users beyond formal training/reference materials
  • Design communication vehicles to engage and inform key stakeholders and users impacted by planned changes in systems
  • Travel will vary based on project activity and may exceed 20% occasionally.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering is required; a Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • Four (4) years of related experience is required; Five (5) or more years of related experience in manufacturing is preferred.
  • Familiar Programming Languages: (for example:C#, Java, C++, VBA/VBScript, .NET)
  • Solid Relational database Databases: (for example SQL / Oracle)
  • Knowledge of software environments (DEV, TEST, QA, PROD) and software validation process
  • Equipment interfaces with MES / IoT platforms / Equipment (for example: MQTT,OPC UA, XML, JSON, API’s)

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key job accountabilities may be considered.

Work Environment:

  • The work setting should consist of an office environment with suitable lighting, comfortable temperatures, and a low noise level.
