The Opportunity

Qurate Retail Group (QRG) is searching for a Director of Platform Engineer who will be responsible for the teams, processes and technologies that control the runtime platforms for our Digital and Enterprise Systems, both in the Cloud and on-premises. In this role you will lead both Platform Engineering and Enablement teams The Platform Engineering teams are responsible for all engineering aspects for QVC and HSN applications.

Your Impact

  • Lead cloud migrations for existing workloads and new development activities. Embrace native Cloud-capabilities and principles to allow us to fully exploit the power & versatility of the Cloud and shift more towards PaaS.
  • Increase our product/platform as a service capability to allow the software engineering team to deliver with more autonomy.
  • Leverage automation to build sub-modules that can be used to deliver complete workloads and pipelines as code moving the organization more towards immutable infrastructure.
  • Platform Engineering/Site Reliability Engineering/Enablement Teams: further develop these principles, their operating models cross the organization through continuous improvement.
  • Provides strategic leadership, management and direction to the Platform and Enablement Teams. Develop metrics to measure delivery, continuous improvement, and how the teams are enabling software engineering to be more autonomous.
  • Lead the assessment/evaluation of technology stacks required by the different enterprise applications and their runtime environment to develop a modernization roadmap that aligns with cloud strategies and the transformation initiatives.
  • Define strategies to optimize cost to operate legacy, reduce its risk profile while we continue to modernize.
  • Consolidates existing technologies, optimize resources, and define a reference architecture aligned with applications needs and our Cloud strategies.
  • Oversee the monitoring, maintenance, upgrade and administration of the underlying technology stack required by the runtime environment for each of our enterprise applications to achieve system availability, performance, and security objectives.
  • Provide engineering support to the different value streams, establish visibility into work required and dependencies to support value stream initiatives and increase our agility to deliver.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators and service level objectives for continually improving the performance and availability of the different enterprise application platforms.
  • Manage 3rd party vendors and service providers; performance and SLA’s, incident handling and issue/problem resolution and escalation.
  • Establishes, monitors, and reports on key metrics associated with the enablement teams and self-service capabilities.
  • Build and maintain key partnerships and alignment across application development and infrastructure teams in order to ensure buy-in and support for key initiatives with cross dependencies.
  • Implements strategies to attract, retain, motivate and develop talent in their organization.
  • Develop department budget and ensures budget objectives are achieved through managers and other team members.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 12+ years of relevant experience with at least 7 in a role leading a technical team.
  • Demonstrated ability of building quick alignment, driving to decisions, influencing without positional power, and collaborating to producing improved outcomes.
  • Preferred experience working in an Agile environment with ability to drive speed and predictability through continuous improvements.
