This newly created position of Sr. Manager of Operational Excellence provides leadership and oversight on critical organizational activities, human resource management and site performance for the Director. Description
Planning, direction, evaluation
- Provides management planning, direction and evaluation to all day-to-day Dining Services food preparation, service, catering, and retailing activities.
- Ensures adherence to established policies, certifications, and procedures; identifies the need for and develops and implements changes or recommends/advises on implementation changes as appropriate.
- Directs the development and marketing of meal plans and menu.
- Manages the Dining Services fiscal officer to develop and maintain the budget for a 30+ million-dollar operation. Tracks expenses and reviews pricing to make sure that profit goals will be met. Assures proper payment methods are properly accounted for and policies upheld.
- Participates in long range planning activities for the department.
Description
Personnel management and supervision
- Through subordinate supervisors, manages the leadership team, clerical & support staff, union and non-union staff, and student workers.
- Analyzes staffing levels, develops justification for changes as appropriate, and works with managers to implement & communicate changes.
- Serves as a role model, advocate, and mentor to direct reports: the Dining Administration team, Executive Chef – Board Plan, Director of Culinary Operations and facility managers. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff to meet changing departmental needs.
- Supports Director in management responsibilities including labor relations, individual/group behavior, diversity, training and professional development, team building practices, hiring, discipline and performance evaluations.
- Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the union contract to monitor the application of the contract by managers, advise on union issues, and serve as the second step in the grievance process.
Description
Systems and contracts oversight
- Oversees that the menu management system and menu board system are up to date and accurate. Oversees other systems used by the department, and supporting analytics.
- Delegates accurate inventory control of technology (CC readers, cash registers etc.).
- Works with Campus Services legal on contractual issues. Works with Campus Service IT on upgrades, support and broader IT communication.

Scheduling
- Maintains Dartmouth Dining operations schedules at least six months in advance and completes union and management schedules for academic terms, breaks and special events.

- Coordinates communications and events with high touch student organizations.
- Corresponds verbally and in writing with students, parents, and guests regarding concerns/complaints/recommendations. Promptly addresses customer & employee concerns.
