Responsible to formulate, develop strategy, framework and policy to provide independent assurance on state of regulatory compliance at local operations and preserve the integrity and reputation of the bank as a respectable organisation. The person is also expected to lead a Team and responsible for all compliance matters in relation to the Bank in Singapore.

YOUR CHALLENGE

The location head for Compliance of Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd., Geneva branch has the responsibility for the oversight of the local Private Banking Compliance staff in the Geneva offices.

In this role, the location head oversees the implementation and execution of KYC/AML standards and procedures relating to the onboarding of Private Banking (PB) client relationships.

In addition to the primary compliance responsibility for the Sub regions French Speaking Switzerland and Western Europe, the team head supports the local Compliance staff from other Markets, in particular Eastern Europe and Middle East & Africa in the execution of their mandate and acts as the business partner and point of contact for local senior management.

The location Head ensures compliance with external and internal regulations and standards for new PB client relationships.

In addition, the location Head Compliance Geneva assumes a critical function in maintaining a strong compliance culture through a close and trusted working relationship with the “first line of defence” (FRM) and other members of the CRO Divisions, such as Legal, Risk, Tax. Also, the location head represents PB Compliance in the local Geneva Management Committee.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as the “second line of defense” in the onboarding of new PB clients
  • Ensure the implementation and execution of adequate KYC/AML principles and procedures for the acceptance of PB client relationships
  • Monitor and track the adherence to KYC/AML standards for onboarding and evaluation of the KYC quality within the Bank
  • Report and escalate potential AML breaches, sensitive cases or delays to the relevant stakeholders
  • Cooperation with other subject matter experts (i.e. Legal, Tax, AML Monitoring etc.) in the assessment of specific onboarding cases
  • Provide guidance to the Business in the application of AML related requirements, standards and best practice and ensure close contact with the Business to assure efficient and pro-active support in Compliance related issues
  • Develop, implement and provide adequate training & education of AML policies and procedures to PB Compliance staff as well as to the Business
  • Represent PB Compliance in the local Geneva Management Committee

  • Directing and leading a team of people in their day-to-day work and achievement of their objectives as set in the performance management system
  • Demonstrate effective leadership based on clarity in communication, consistency in approach
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating integrity and adherence to Julius Baer’s Code of conduct and further strengthen the Bank’s risk culture
  • Building a strong team spirit and supporting innovation and continuous improvement

REQUIREMENTS

  • 10+ years of professional experience gathered in the (private) banking industry
  • University degree in Finance | Law | Risk as a minimum plus professional certification in Compliance (e.g. CAS in Compliance)
  • Relevant work experience as Compliance Manager, with a strong understanding of legal and compliance risks and a solid understanding of the Swiss and EU regulatory framework applicable to the banking industry
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills (proficient business English is a must)
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently also under high pressure and to manage a diverse team in times of change
  • Great team player, with the ability to motivate others and to work across teams and cultures
