The Database Administration Engineer is responsible for installation, maintenance and support of miscellaneous database platforms to ensure the operation of global systems in order to provide performance and availability for its users, such as staff, customers and suppliers. Including teams within Information Technology, Information Systems, and others.

Main Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing, planning, conducting and directing the analysis of complex business initiatives that require a Database to be actioned upon. Provide technical support and resolve requests around the Database Admin technology verticals. Acts as Level 3 escalation on site and on call support within the internal IT Database Team for high severity issues, VIP service requests, in progress projects and vendors, work hand in hand with other technology teams to provide solutions to end user needs. Documentation and Implementation of Standard and Normal Changes, as well as support on Emergency Changes. Work along other teams to plan and deploy patches and or upgrades to the Database Management Systems environments, perform peer reviews for Method of Procedure and enforce Policies and standardization. Perform TELUS International Database Assessments that include but are not limited to: Administration, deployment, configuration and recovery of DBMS.Perform Database Inventorying and documentation, implement and enforce Database Best practices, least privileged access models, Backup and Recovery practices. Database Monitoring and tune up: sessions, locks, peaks, io, waits, etc. HADR failover and management for different DBMS. Provides Support to Global Security Audits acting as POC from IT Database Administration Team within the Auditor Interviews and evidence asks. Collaborate with Engineering New Client Launches and/or new technology projects, enabling new business and features. Perform other project related duties as requested by management.

Knowledge:

  • English (written and oral) - B2:
  • Oral and written comprehension
  • Appropriate use of the English language
  • Miscellaneous Operating system knowledge and practice background within Databases scope.
  • Strong skills in Miscellaneous DBMS and SQL Language
  • MSSQL 2005 - 2017 | MySQL 5.0 - 8 | PostgreSQL
  • Google Cloud Platform (CloudSQL/BigQuery/etc)
  • NoSQL (Riak/Redis/MongoDB)
  • SQL Development
  • Common troubleshooting knowledge and debugging for multi-tiered architecture.
  • Powershell Scripting, Bash Shell Scripting, Python Scripting.
  • General Knowledge of Programming Language and their interaction with DBs.

Studies & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or any IT / Computer-related course or equivalent work experience
  • MCSA SQL - Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (desirable)
  • Experience handling multi tiered Database Solutions 
  • Experience in Microsoft Windows and Linux.
  • Knowledge in Cloud interaction in any of these technologies: GCP, Azure, AWS. 
  • Minimum of 3+ years experience in a DBA/DevOps development role.
