Sony Partner Engineering is a team responsible to manage relationships with key partners in the TV industry (broadcasters, OTT partners, operators, etc.) and most importantly, help them bring value to our Sony TV products through our tehcnical expertise.
We work with partners and other Software teams in Sony mainly in the areas of multimedia streaming, Android and HbbTV app development.
The team also works closely with Product and UX teams aiming to identify opportunities and influence the Sony product strategy based on our technical and market knowledge.
JOB PURPOSE:
Partner engineering lead is responsible to ensure EU content providers bring value to our product through our technical expertise. (EU content providers = broadcasters, operators and OTT providers)
We work with partners mainly in the areas of multimedia streaming, Android and HbbTV app development.
The team aims to identify opportunities and influence product and business direction based on our technical and market knowledge.
To achieve our goals, we:
- ensure to have trust relationships with key EU partners.
- work closely with not only EU partners but internal teams (product, business, software design, UX) in order to address any issues and achieve our target.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE FOR DECISION MAKING:
- Debugging, troubleshooting HbbTV and Android apps, finally providing guidance to partners to resolve technical issues with their services.
- Providing guidance and support to internal design teams to resolve technical constraints in TV software that impact partners.
- Debugging, troubleshooting HbbTV and Android finally resolution for market incident resolution.
- Producing technical and best practices documentation for partners.
- Working with Business and Product teams to understand business requirements.
- Following latest technologies and trends in the TV market, identify the differences between Sony models and competitors in terms of partnerships. Identifying opportunities.
- Travel may be required to Europe to visit partners and other teams in Sony.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in computer science, engineering or practical science subject or lower qualifications with significant relevant industrial experience.
- Expertise in web (HTML/JS/CSS) and Android (Java or Kotlin) application development.
- Expertise in content streaming technologies (adaptive streaming, A/V codecs, DRM, CDN).
- Experience writing and maintaining large scale production software.
- Experience of project working and professional software development processes, including Agile
- Very good understanding of Android Framework architecture.
- General DVB and HbbTV knowledge and previous experience is desirable.
- Technical lead on at least one medium/large sized project
- Ability to travel within Europe.
- A team player with excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate clear discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail to make sure that the reports are right first time.
- Ability to work independently to deadlines and to prioritise accordingly.
