Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Scotiabank Automotive Finance business line in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Under general direction, designs, develops and maintains the organization's database, database dictionaries, standards and procedures and integrates systems through database design.
- Optimize operating efficiency for assigned data and databases. Make recommendations towards the development of new database code or refactoring and reuse of existing database code.
- Provide technical support and leadership in troubleshooting hardware / software including data and database related problems.
- Plan and direct database technology projects as required.
- Work with the Scotiabank Architects to ensure alignment of technical solutions to bank standards and practices.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Computer Science degree
- Computer/Information Engineering would be an asset
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- A motivated self-starter
- Excellent interpersonal skills in order to foster healthy team morale
- Excellent organizational and communications skills; both oral and written.
- Must have 7+ years of practical & progressive IT experience with a minimum of 5 years of advanced database related skills covering a range of infrastructure, business applications and reporting.
- Must possess strong problem solving skills, including the ability to identify critical issues, prioritize and apply technology and industry practices in ways that are most beneficial to Scotiabank.
- Must be self-starting, results oriented and highly motivated individual with good analytical skills in order to understand and resolve business issues.
- A high degree of flexibility is required to adapt to a wide variety of tasks and functions.
- Should have the ability to provide input and recommendations to solutions that support the growth of the business and that adhere to Scotiabank standards and policies.
- Possess an in-depth understanding of a wide variety of information systems is required as the position is hands on and requires active participation in all phases of the systems life cycle, from concept through design, implementation and support.
