The Technology & Engineering Department has an opening for a Senior Application Support Engineer in the Digital Customer Experience team. Our tool suite includes Java, Micro-services, Sprint Boot, Cassandra, Kafka, MS-Azure, OKTA, GIT, Angular, React, GIT, Gradle, Jenkins cloud and on-prem environments. This position is located in Pleasanton, California.

Position Purpose

This role requires the candidate to perform troubleshooting, incident resolution, including configuring and implementing alert monitoring within the suite of customer facing experience applications. As a member of the application support team, the candidate needs to be able to support and maintain applications written in Java, shell scripting, and the various common full stack modern technologies.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Diagnose, isolate, and debug production issues to quickly resolve customer-facing incidents.
  • Actively drives post-incident root cause analysis efforts.
  • Partners with development engineers by implementing corrections to problems associated with supported applications and the customers they serve.
  • Provides technical guidance, in the diagnosis of issues as they arise in support of critical applications.
  • Drives collaboration sessions among IT and product groups to facilitate optimal performance, support, and operation of the relevant services or applications.
  • Contributes to the design, implementation, and enhancement of critical services and applications.
  • Performs proactive analysis and troubleshooting to predict and prevent production incidents.
  • Defines, contributes, and implements performance monitoring capabilities for critical services or applications.
  • Designs, configures, and implements automated monitoring rules and alerts.
  • Participates in Production Turnover activities to bring new platforms and technologies into the environment.
  • Interfaces with Engineering Managers, Developers, and Build Experts to understand the technology requested and the business complexities as they relate to IT requirements.
  • Adheres to Incident, Problem and Change Management process & best practices.
  • Maintains incident and problem ticket documentation.
  • Prepares change documentation & implements fixes for recurring issues.
  • Authors and maintains knowledge articles in ServiceNow based on actionable monitoring alerts.
  • Provides knowledge transfer (KT) sessions amongst peers and offshore team members.
  • Collaborates with key vendors on functional, performance and capacity improvements.
  • Fosters teamwork.
  • Manages multiple work streams.
  • Provides support for customer-facing activities that require 24x7 availability, including after-hours On-Call rotation activities.

Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree (Computer Science, Information Systems, or related functional field)
  • 7+ years of IT experience focusing on Domain, System and Infrastructures, sub systems and application integration and of significant programming experience using various standard scripting languages.
  • 2+ years acting as a lead Engineer for major systems and their subsystems for complex computer applications and/or application initiatives is desired.
  • Strong understanding of each Domain: data integration, systems programming, and information
  • Understanding of industry leading solutions and technologies in the applicable domain
  • Strong experience using scripting and/or programming languages - Java and/or Perl especially.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with an ability to quickly diagnose complex production issues.
  • Understanding of different application architectures, including client-server, three tier and modern technology web services
  • Ability to understand underlying infrastructure and cloud technologies for IT services.
  • Experience in issues related to network and internet security.
  • Strong knowledge in application performance monitoring
  • Strong knowledge of Web related technologies including DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL Certificates, some HTML/JavaScript.
  • Some experience with Windows administration of Users, Groups, Policies, etc.
  • Familiarity with Windows OS, some experience with UNIX OS, including commands and scripting on both OS.
  • Familiarity with relational database technologies (Oracle and/or SQL Server, others)
  • Experience with network and computer hardware
  • Good experience in creating and maintaining application processes and documentation.
  • Ability to understand client expectations and to resolve issues that may affect service.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple levels of the organization.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and train other application support engineers
  • Self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to learn beyond formal training with a strong aptitude for supporting quality products.

Desired:

  • Experience with Collaboration tools, MS/Outlook, MS/TEAMS, SharePoint, JIRA, Confluence
  • Experience with ServiceNow or similar Service Management tools
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as AppD, BMC, Splunk, SiteScope, ExtraHop, Fluke, DataDog
  • Knowledge of Akamai administration
  • Familiarity with Cloud technologies (PCF, AKS, Kafka, Snowflake)
  • Familiarity with Datastage, ESP, Spark
  • Familiarity with Database structure (Windows/SQL, Cassandra, Cosmos)
  • Working experience in a retail environment
  • Experience in working with teams in remote locations.
