Software Engineer Staff -- Cybersecurity R&D

About the Position:

You will be a Software Engineer in the Cybersecurity R&D team at Juniper Networks. Our mission is to ensure that all Juniper products are sufficiently secure to operate safely in their intended environments. To this end, we create reference designs and code for software and firmware security features. We also conduct original research and evangelize security engineering practices across the company.

The winning candidate will demonstrate a range of interests across the science of cybersecurity, the ability to work against both short-term and long-term goals, and a high tolerance for ambiguity. This is an opportunity to change the world, for the better.

Required Qualifications:

  • A genuine passion for building effective and pragmatic security.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with out-of-the-box critical thinking.
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and methodologies.
  • Can work on your own but know when to ask for help.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in C/C++ with a test-driven mindset.
  • Experience in embedded firmware environments.
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix development environments.
  • Understanding of software vulnerabilities and mitigations.
  • Familiarity with secure boot and applied cryptography.
  • Experience in working on open-source security libraries such as OpenSSL and OpenSSH.
  • Experience in applications security, network security, systems security and malware analysis.
  • Comfortable with tooling that demonstrates an automation mindset: bash, Python, Ruby scripting and/or Chef, Puppet, Ansible, CI/CD experience.
  • Being able to work across various platform, cross-functional, infra security teams to provide best security solutions for Juniper.
  • Passionate about writing good quality code and be open-minded to feedback on detailed code reviews.
  • Capability to implement security standards like NIST FIPS 140-3, Common Criteria.
  • Experience and understanding of Cloud orchestration technologies like Kubernetes, Openstack, Microservices, Docker 
  • BS/MS in CS/CE with a specialized focus in Cybersecurity and corresponding experience in the field.
  • Cybersecurity-related certification(s), including CCSP, CISSP, CISM, CEH, GPEN is a plus.
