The Opportunity

QVC is seeking an energetic individual to join our television team as a Lighting Assistant. In this role, you will work closely with a Lighting Designer & Engineer with creating and maintaining the lighting scheme/design for the live broadcast. Also, react quickly to critical situations that occur in live broadcast situations, and support any other lighting activities that involve all live or content studios. A successful candidate will have basic working knowledge of lighting systems, fixtures, video, and design.

About “On Call”

QVC employs “on call” staff to cover projects, vacation, and periods of high volume. “On call” means that you are scheduled “as needed”, and you could work a varied schedule from week to week based on our needs and your availability.

Who We Are

The Broadcast Operations team brings the QVC products to life, live on television, as well as other mediums that reach our customer. The main objective for the team is to provide a comprehensive, engaging presentation which highlights the features and benefits of the products that we sell.

Your Impact

• Independently set up, program and strike basic lighting setups.
• Lighting activities involve all Live studio, and some Video Production responsibilities.
• Works closely with the Associate Lighting Designers to identify and accommodate unplanned lighting needs.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled checks of set lighting to ensure that all fixtures, gel, and accessories are in good working condition and focused correctly.
• Program the lighting consoles, as necessary. Understand basic operations and functions of the lighting console.
• Perform inventory checks and audit of larger assets.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area, and promote all safe-use practices through the use of safety guidelines.

What You Bring

• Degree in television / theater / lighting and/or film, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• 1 year of recent active lighting experience, coupled with a working knowledge of technical elements.
• A skill set consisting of lighting and color theory, some basic grip and rigging techniques, knowledge of traditional lighting fixtures and effects.
• Able to climb stairs/ladders and work on elevated surfaces
• Able to lift, push, carry, pull items over 70 lbs.
• Able to work various shifts in a 24/7 environment, including weekends, Holidays and overnights.
