Position Description:

This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer at Austin Energy. This position will be responsible for coordinating interdepartmental needs, programs, initiatives, and monitoring and tracking performance. This position will coordinate with operational groups to execute strategic operational initiatives.

Work Schedule:

  • Shifts may change according to departmental needs.
  • Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule and report to other work locations as determined by COO.
  • This position is considered FLSA Exempt. Exempt employees are salaried and, except as provided, are not eligible for overtime compensation.

Pay Range

Commensurate

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with some flexibility
  • Additional work hours may be required to support utility operations

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, performing the full range of supervisory duties for professional staff including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, managing employee relations concerns, and recommendations for dismissal
  • Experience managing government, municipal or business programs with budgets of $100,000+
  • Experience leading projects and teams to accomplish organizational goals
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies
  • Broad knowledge of Electric System Operations organization
  • Experience working across the organization to conduct analytics and build frameworks for key initiatives

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Participates in long- and short-range organizational planning activities for Electric Utility Business Units.

2. Coordinates and leads cross-functional teams in discussions related to work culture, safety, and environmental business unit projects.

3. Manages, monitors, and reports out on the progress of Business Unit cultural and change initiatives.

4. Develops, maintains, and monitors Business Unit budgets; and assists in creating, compiling, and completing all budget documents for Executive presentation.

5. Manages purchasing procurement process and monitors contract services to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

6. Assists in the development of operational policies and procedures that are consistent with Austin Energy, City, and departmental polices and operating procedures.

7. Recommends potential solutions or alternatives to critical business issues and presents them to the Executives for approval.

8. Prepares and presents reports and oversees the design of visual presentation materials, including charts and graphs to accompany reports.

9. Acts as the interdepartmental liaison for the Deputy General Manager with other City departments.

10. Works closely with senior leaders and Executive staff to develop creative solutions purposed to address the evolving needs of the changing workforce.
