The Mechanical Products Team is seeking PropulsionMechanical Engineers in Tucson, AZ to join the Energetics and Propulsion Department. The E&P Department is responsible for the full spectrum of propulsion, warhead performance, fuzing, rocket motor ignition power sources, one-shot energetic initiation, and all other energetic systems technology. This position will provide engineering support and subcontractor technical oversite for solid rocket motor propulsion system production, design and process improvements as a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA).
Note: This position can be a Salary Grade G08 (Sr. Mechanical Engineer) or a Salary Grade G09 (Sr. Mechanical Engineer II) based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.
The ideal candidate will:
Apply or develop highly advanced technical technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts to the systems integration of solid rocket motor propulsion, mechanical and electrical interfaces for integration into missile systems.
Provide technical oversight to propulsion subcontractor(s) to define system requirements and work with them to ensure on time, on budget delivery of compliant hardware and documentation.
Review designs, manufacturing processes and procedures and work directly with subcontractors to apply lean manufacturing and Design For Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principals and techniques to the design and manufacturing of propulsion systems.
Review manufacturing processes, uncover any issues associated with the propulsion systems and work directly with subcontractors to develop, validate and implement solutions.
Review and disposition subcontract data and change requests; and oversee supplier operations.
Update and maintain propulsion Technical Data Packages (TDPs).
Work in a collaborative environment with program management and other disciplines in long-range program planning concerning obsolesce, product improvement and process improvement.
Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies.
Work effectively in a distributed collaborative environment with program management and other technical experts.
May travel regularly to government and subcontractor facilities.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
