Job Summary:
Solipsys, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Raytheon Missile & Defense (RMD) group is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Database Developer/Software Engineer to join our Software team in Fulton, MD.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing technical expertise and guidance for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow, and performance analysis.
- Developing new (and supporting existing) database structures that match the overall architecture of the system under development. Criteria includes total number of simultaneous users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security and domain controls.
- Analyzing and developing requirements and systems architecture needs to guide implementation of simple and complex queries, database connectivity, database storage needs (short and extended duration), database administration, and data retrieval and insertion to local, distributed, and cloud architectures.
- Assisting with recommendations for systems improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts.
- Working with Information Technology (IT) subject matter experts to ensure alignment to corporate network rules, policies, and guidelines
Required Skills:
- Experience with relational and geospatial database design and development, including experience with database servers such as: Oracle and PostgreSQL. This also includes experience with non-relational databases. Additional skills and experience should include:
- Indexing and query optimization
- Database Connectivity experience through application programming interfaces (APIs) such as JDBC (Java Database Connectivity)
- Database server tuning and monitoring
- Configuration and setup of distributed databases
- Data mining technical experience
- Minimum 6 years relevant work experience in Object Oriented Design development and analysis using C++ and/or JAVA and SW development tools.
- Minimum 6 years relevant work experience with full life cycle development including exposure to software requirements, design, development, debug and test.
- This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance within 1 year of hire. Except in rare circumstance, only US Citizens are eligible for a clearance.
Desired Skills:
- Demonstrated skills with C++ related Technologies: Boost/STL/Standard C++ Library/etc.
- Experience in developing applications using Java Standard Edition, Java Enterprise Edition (JEE), JBoss Application Server (JBoss AS), JBoss Enterprise Service Bus (JBoss ESB), and Service Oriented Architecture
- Skill in the use of libraries such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, Solr, and SolrCloud
- Skills and experience with JSON-B
- Containerizing databases and deployment to cloud infrastructure
- Experience with Apache Ant library and build tool
- Experience with Jenkins continuous integration tool
- Ability to work with customers to provide training, demonstrations, and technical guidance
- Strong oral & written communication skills & proven leadership skills
- Ability to coach & mentor junior/mid-level engineers
- Existing government Secret clearance
Required Education:
- B.S./B.A. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (with an emphasis on programming) or other related engineering discipline.
