Your role as the Team Leader will involve the management of a team dedicated to the provision of all aspects of credit services including advice and credit structuring, assessing and decisioning complex commercial and corporate transactions for new to bank clients within delegated approval authorities and engagement with senior stakeholders in the Business and Risk. Other aspects of the role will include credit monitoring and oversight, leading select strategic initiatives undertaken within Commercial & Corporate Banking Risk, and promoting a prudent risk culture in the Business and Risk through coaching and mentoring whilst driving a proactive approach to engagement.

Business Banking Risk Management provides the Business Banking team with specialist risk services and advice. Business Banking is one of the three client facing business groups within the Commonwealth Bank and provides support to the Group’s Corporate, Agricultural, Business, Property, and Commsec clients. The Commercial and Corporate Banking Risk team forms part of Business Banking Risk Management. The team provides risk advice and decisioning of transactions to Business & Corporate Banking.

In any given week you will be responsible for the below;

• Management and leadership of a team of Senior Risk Executives based in Sydney, NSW;
• Undertaking sound assessment and analysis of complex new to bank transactions in line with the Bank’s stated risk appetite. This will involve applying a personal delegation for decisioning credits and where required, presenting to Credit and Business committees on transactions;
• Analysis of industry changes which might impact risk outcomes and being able to recognise and recommend appropriate changes to structuring of proposals to counteract these changes;
• Meet with key external client prospects to develop a thorough understanding of their business, while maintaining the requirement of independent risk assessment;
• Develop and maintain a high performance team culture and actively coach deal team members and colleagues in credit risk management
• Act as a role model by consistently displaying leadership behaviours, working in a collaborative manner and driving a strong performance culture;

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

• Experience in a senior risk position, including exercising a meaningful delegation in a major financial institution
• A strong customer focus and management capabilities when liaising with both internal and external stakeholders
• High level specialised industry knowledge and experience in risk management at the corporate or institutional level
• The ability to provide sound, consistent risk decisions with a deep understanding of complex financial and corporate structures, risks and mitigants and cashflow lending principles
• Thorough understanding of the concepts of counterparty and product risk and the regulatory environment
• Experience in leading and managing a team
