Job Description:
The Advanced Electro-Optical and Mission Systems Department is looking for an Algorithms Lead with algorithms, control systems, optical signal processing, and performance analysis capabilities. The Algorithms Lead will join a design team that is designing and building advanced electro-optical systems, which includes imaging, passive/active EO tracking, LIDAR, and directed energy systems. The Algorithms Lead will lead the System Engineering end-to-end implementation of a major mode/capability for an airborne system, including the performance of trade studies, modeling, design, integration, test, and performance analysis. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with very strong problem solving skills and have demonstrated capabilities in the design, integration, and test of complex engineering systems.
Main tasks will be:
- Image/signal processing, algorithm development, and data analysis, primarily in MATLAB/Simulink
- Computer modeling and simulation of sensor physics, optics, phenomenology, and radiometry
- Development of Line-of-Sight stabilization, control systems, detection, and tracking algorithms
- EO/IR system and algorithm performance analysis
- Technical presentations to both internal and external customers
Required Skills:
- 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 8 years working on the design, build, or testing of EO systems / platforms
- Ability to apply systems engineering rigor in the understanding of requirements and the allocation/flowdown of requirements
- A strong, practical background with EO systems, optical signal processing, and algorithm development
- 5+ years of experience with analytics and MATLAB/Simulink programming, including the ability to prototype and test algorithms in MATLAB
- Knowledge of and experience with HW integration for electro-optical systems
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Prior leadership experience managing systems engineering tasks or multi-disciplined teams
- Demonstrated problem solving, organization, coordination, and planning skills, including a demonstrated ability to lead independent investigations and troubleshooting activities
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of the organization
- U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance on day one of employment and the ability to access US-only data systems
- Current/Active DoD Secret
Desired Skills:
- Experience with radiometric sensitivity modeling, IR sensors, calibration, optical signal processing, detection, and tracking
- EO/IR or laser domain knowledge
- Familiarity with the state of the art in LWIR imaging
- Knowledge and practical experience with estimation theory and numerical methods
- Technical experience in opto-mechanical engineering, control systems, embedded computing, or electronics
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink code generation (Coder) toolboxes
- Experience in numerical modeling and simulation, and performing analysis using MATLAB, C++, Python, or similar language
- Knowledge and experience with LabVIEW, dSpace, or FPGA programming
- Current/Active SSBI Clearance
