The Hardware in the Loop RF (HWIL-RF) Department has the responsibility to provide, develop, and maintain engineering development stations that operate real-time and closed-loop with the weapon’s hardware and software.

Job Description:

The HWIL-RF Department is looking for a technical support engineer to work with a team of engineers to execute tests within HWIL-RF Laboratories. Assignments will include lab operations, system maintenance, trouble-shooting, and repair of existing electronic, electromechanical, mechanical, laboratory and scientific systems and/or equipment within the laboratory. The candidate will work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform prototyping or building of cabling and electrical components in support of engineering testing. The candidate will use engineering computer-aided design software to design, update, and release technical data packages. The candidate will learn how to operate the engineering development stations including the use of both Windows and Linux operating systems with a focus on thoroughness and repeatability using documented procedures, as well as assisting in developing new procedures. An understanding of basic RF troubleshooting, integration, and test equipment desired. The successful candidate will have a strong desire and ability for working in a team environment within HWIL-RF engineering laboratories completing hardware and software test set up, generating test data, and reviewing test output used by engineers to determine laboratory functionality.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Required Education Skills and Experience:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Typically requires a related University Degree or equivalent experience and less than 2 years prior relevant experience
  • (1) One year or more professional experience with circuit troubleshooting, analysis, and characterization techniques
  • (1) One year or more experience troubleshooting, analysis, and characterization techniques of circuits and circuit card assemblies
  • Secret or higher security clearance prior to start date, with the ability to obtain a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) clearance
  • Proficient working with both Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Basic knowledge of RF test equipment, such as spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, and oscilloscope

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Windows or Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of equipment rack assembly, cable assembly/installation, and electronics maintenance
  • Knowledge of test equipment such as data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, bus analyzers, logic analyzers, network analyzers, and/or spectrum analyzers
  • Knowledge of software languages such as Java, C, C++, or similar languages
  • Experience troubleshooting systems using test equipment such as data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, bus analyzers, logic analyzers, network analyzers, and/or spectrum analyzers
  • Knowledge of CAD software packages (electrical or mechanical)
