Principal RF Subsystems Design Engineer - Radar / AESAs

Raytheon

Raytheon Intelligence & Space - Radar Electronics Design has immediate opportunities at our NEW Engineering site in Hanover Maryland for Senior RF Subsystem Engineers. Bring your engineering talent to where you will have impact, recognition, and growth in the organization.

This opportunity requires domain knowledge of RF systems, RF subsystems, Active Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESAs) and associated technologies and proven leadership skills to effectively lead multi-disciplinary teams in pursuit and program execution.

Our AESA technologies are used for military radar, electronic warfare (EW), and communications systems. The department is responsible for the full-scope of antenna product solutions, spanning architecture trades, design, development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of antenna systems and associated integrated system verification solutions. The RF Subsystems Engineer will be responsible for performing analyses, developing subsystem models including subsystem in system models, and allocating requirements for the antenna, subassemblies and components. The primary role for this individual will be technical analysis, RF system performance predictions, and antenna performance predictions. It will also include specification flowdown for key components of active electronically scanned arrays (AESA). Candidates should have experience in the design and development of state-of-the-art antenna and active electronic scanned arrays and RF subsystems for Radar, EW, communications, and/or other antenna systems across multiple platforms.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years of related hardware design experience with at least 4 years of RF systems and Active Electronically Scanned Arrays
  • Proficiency with antenna theory/applications
  • Proficiency with AESA architectures and beamforming including analog and digital beamforming
  • Proficiency with RF system and AESA power and control subsystems
  • Experience in RF system integration and characterization.
  • Proficiency in RF system design, subsystem design, and architectural (functional and physical) trade analysis of antennas, transceivers, receivers, radiators, RF manifolds, RF devices, including the effects of power consumption, weight, thermal load, performance, and cost.
  • Proficiency with commercial RF system modelling tools, such as Keysight ADS, Keysight Genesys and SystemVue, National Instruments Visual System Simulator, Mathworks Matlab Phased Array System and RF Toolboxes, Mathworks Simulink, AGI STK.
  • Proficiency with specifying RF products, performing supplier and technology assessments, and technical direction
  • Experience supporting proposals including developing a technical solution, identifying risks and opportunities, and writing both technical and cost volumes
  • Excellent verbal skills, executive presence.
  • Requires occasional business travel
  • Able to obtain a Top Secret clearance; existing preferred
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance within one year of start date; Active clearance is preferred.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with AESA integration and calibration
  • Experience managing technical teams and tracking costs and budgets
  • Experience with functional management of engineers

Required Education: B.S. degree in a related STEM discipline; EE is preferred.
