Systems Engineering Center is seeking a Ground Lead System Engineer with domain knowledge in RF systems, Space, and capable of leading a technical team. Our team is developing the next generation of space systems architecture, space vehicle systems, and space mission payloads. Job Description:

The Systems Engineering Center (SEC) is seeking strong, technically sound engineering leaders committed and passionate about creating innovative, cost-effective solutions for complex space and ground applications. The successful candidate will be a member of the Space Mission Specialty Department and will provide engineering leadership for the Architecting, Developing, Testing, and Verification of RF space and ground programs.

The job tasks will include:

  • Development of the ground based architecture for a specific space vehicle platform.
  • Assessing the ground interfaces, performance, duty cycles, latencies, and support required,
  • Defining the ground block diagram, functionality, signal flow, reliability
  • Taking Mission level requirements and performing requirements decomposition showing traceability to various levels
  • Performance predictions & trade studies
  • Design development, optimization, and exploitation
  • Technical leadership participating in technical peer reviews throughout the product lifecycle of design, development, integration and test, and test requirements verification
  • Develop the analysis to predict overall system performance, error margins and performance budgets (link budget).
  • Technical leadership of peer groups, and provides technical mentoring to programs as subject matter expert for ground archtectures.
  • Conduct system design reviews, test readiness reviews, and test review boards.
  • Support the development and flow down of systems requirements, error budget trees, and performance modeling, simulation and analysis

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering or algorithm development
  • In-depth experience and knowledge of systems engineering.software engineering, satellite communications, digital image processing, telecommunication, computer architecture, satellite data processing systems, and computer networking.
  • Knowledge and experience in design and implementation of communications and data processing systems
  • Knowledge and experience in developing overall systems and component subsystems and analyzed functional specifications, definitions of concepts and designs, implementation, installation, integration, and testing
  • Knowledge and experience in performance and design analysis of sensors, space to ground communications, data processing systems, end-to-end LAN and WAN computer networks and their hardware/software components, communication channels, communication protocols, and device interfaces
  • Knowledge and experience with Direct Broadcast technology, CCSDS, HDF5, SOA based systems, SOAP, BPEL, MPEG, TCP/IP, X.400, X.500, ISODE, FTAM, TP4/CLNP, X.25, Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, ISDN, DS1, DS3, Asynchronous and Synchronous line protocols, SNMP-Based Network/Enterprise Management, CMIP-Based Network/Enterprise Management, special purpose protocols (layers 1,2,3,4), routers, bridges, concentrators, hubs, VSAT and SATCOM equipment, hyperchannel, various modems, and DSU/CSU devices
  • U.S. Citizenship status
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position requires an active DoD Top Secret clearance as of Day 1 of employment

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in Matlab, C++, or related languages
  • Experience in algorithm development
  • Experience working with both customer and internal resources
  • Able to effectively multi-task multiple tasks and priority actions
  • Graduate level coursework in and/or work experience in digital filtering, linear algebra, stochastic processes, estimation theory, and detection theory
  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Experience leading a technical team of System Engineers and Analysts
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Science or related STEM degree

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
