Role Overview

This posting is for an Engineering Manager (Sr Manager, General Engineering) position for Collins Aerospace in a growing business area, Future Vertical Lift (FVL). Reporting to the engineering department manager, this role is responsible for the overall technical and administrative management of the FVL Air Vehicle Avionics subsystem engineering team. The team is responsible for the full engineering lifecycle including systems and software engineering development and integration of flight critical equipment and applications such as flight displays, EICAS, flight director, and flight management. First, this role is responsible to build the team of 12-15 systems and software architects, engineers, and technical project managers.

This position has the flexibility to be located at multiple locations

Responsibilities of this position include pursuit and execution of government avionics programs. Candidates for this position must have proven execution experience pursuing and leading large complex projects, and systems or software engineering experience in a lead role on complex avionics programs. Software development background is required. Experience with open systems software standards and designs, model-based engineering, DevOps, and Agile is desired. Experience leading teams in a formal engineering manager role is desired.

In addition to technical activities, responsibilities also include resource allocation and overall administrative management of the team. This position demands an ability and willingness to perform day-to-day employee engagement, coaching and mentoring, and employee development. The role also requires employee performance management, including providing continuous feedback and performance correction, engagement check-ins, and administering formal performance management processes. Responsibilities also include employee onboarding, training, and career development. 

Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, as well as customers. As such, the applicant must have both strong interpersonal skills and a strong, broad-based technical competency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 8 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess an active security clearance or be eligible to obtain one. 
  • US Citizenship is required
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed
  • Proven execution experience leading large complex projects
  • Software development background
  • Systems of software engineering experience in a lead role on complex avionics programs

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with open systems software standards and designs, model-based engineering, DevOps, and Agile
  • Experience leading teams in a formal engineering manager role
