Special Commitments

Raytheon’s engineers develop the next generation of defense technologies that support our military and protect our nation and our allies. We are the world’s leader in developing and manufacturing leading edge missile systems and defense solutions, and we are looking for engineers who enjoy solving complex problems and engaging in a dynamic team environment.

The efforts of the Modeling and Simulation Engineers of Raytheon Missiles & Defense allows the customer to experiment with and develop new complex weapon systems in a simulation-driven virtual environment. We create battlefield simulations, detailed hardware and environment models, perform pre and post flight analysis, physics based modeling, integrate flight software, run time optimization, computer and hardware-in-the-loop integration, and investigate military product value. Our department’s engineers are versatile, innovative, self-motivated and eager to learn.

Our Huntsville, AL, location has openings available for Modeling and Simulation Engineers to join our team of engineering professionals, specifically for shaping and supporting complex systems in the early development phase. Learn more and apply today!

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Job Description and Key Tasks:

  • The Senior Systems Engineer II will work across multiple disciplines (e.g. Guidance, Navigation, and Control, signal processing, mechanical design) to design and develop multiple fidelities of simulation models which represent the components of a system. This includes showcasing the ability to read, debug, edit and create computer programming code to enhance simulation models, creating and executing unit tests on the models to verify functionality, documenting the design and test results, and integrating with other component models in a complex system simulation environment. This may also include development of interfaces to support Computer and Hardware-in-the-Loop capabilities within the simulation framework.
  • The Senior Systems Engineer II will execute simulations in a high-performance computing environment, which can include the use of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), to support missile system design/trade studies, performance assessment, and system test. The Senior/Principal Simulation Engineer will develop analysis of the data for the specific task as well as provide detailed insight and understanding of the system performance, recognizing and troubleshooting any anomalies observed in the simulation results.
  • The Senior Systems Engineer II will assist in the preparation of detailed simulation plans, which may include developing task objectives, determining expected output, budget requirements and developing the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS). The Senior/Principal Simulation Engineer may interact with government counterparts as an authority on simulation products and may work at the customer site to assist with execution of the simulation and analyze the results.
  • Please note: We are not seeking engineers with an AutoCAD or 3-D modeling background or network modeling from an IT perspective.

Required Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, or Computer Science
  • Six (6) years of applied work experience programming in a compiled language, such as C++, Java, or Fortran (C++ preferred)
  • Six (6) years professional experience developing software models of physical systems, physics, and/or hardware environments related to systems components
  • Experience using tools such as MATLAB or Python for data analysis
  • Experience using UNIX/Linux based workstations
  • Experience using EO/IR or radar scene generation capabilities
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Other Requirements:

  • Must have an existing Department of Defense issued Secret Security clearance.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL (comprehensive relocation package available)

Desired Experience & Skills:

  • Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or Math
  • Experience developing applications using Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence
  • Leadership experience managing others as a technical lead, team lead or similar lead role involving applied system engineering and analysis
  • Experience in radar, signal & image processing, digital communications, estimation theory, optimal control, system architecture, inertial navigation, or guidance theory
  • Experience with simulation development in a Computer-in-the-Loop or Hardware-in-the-Loop environment
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to analyze and understand overall system performance to aid in model integration and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Software Configuration Management tools (Github, Subversion, Rational Team Concept, Synergy)
  • Practical experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS), major Gates cycles (Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, etc), and/or proposal and Basis of Estimates development
