Engineering Fellow - RF Sensor & Scene Modeling

Raytheon

Benefits

Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) is looking for an RF Sensor and Scene Modeling Technologist to provide a systems approach to the design and development of novel engineering test environments used to ensure the performance capability of RMD products.

RMD, a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, security and civilian markets is seeking an experienced RF Sensor and Scene Modeling Fellow for the Advanced Test Systems Engineering Center (ATSEC), an organization with 550+ employees and over $250M+/year of delivered products. This organization employs the latest RF hardware systems engineering competencies within Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) and Computer-in-the-Loop (CIL) environments, to grow and sustain engineering test activities, making tests affordable, credible, agile and robust, and helping to deliver to our customers the highest quality with the greatest confidence in our products.

The candidate will be responsible for leading and shaping the technology and model implementation of data streams representing the Scene stimulus and output of missile systems RF sensors. The selected candidate will also be expected to technically lead diverse teams, providing technical oversight and task delegation, and working with the Engineering organization in establishing technology roadmaps, modernization and general innovation vectors. In addition, candidate may work with customer Government(s) personnel and programs, defining testing requirements to verify that hardware being designed is compliant with requirements. Candidate will be responsible for providing guidance, coaching / mentoring and training to other employees across the business within area of expertise.

As an Engineering Fellow, it is expected that the candidate works across Product Lines and Business Units as critical needs dictate of the Enterprise. Additionally, a Fellow will seek out and establish apprenticeships to enable a teaching culture. In particular, they must have a demonstrated track record of RF phenomenology understanding and modeling, using modern computing, and validated by published papers and mentoring of apprentices and learners.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years' applicable experience focused on modeling, analysis, and test of applied RF systems and phenomena
  • Demonstrated systems understanding of radars and simulations, to include target and radar modeling, hardware and software integration, and systems analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in RF digital signal progressing algorithms, advanced waveforms, antenna patterns, and techniques
  • Demonstrated experience of RF spectral and temporal effects for sensor and backgrounds, including clutter, multipath, self-interference, grounding and shielding, and mitigation factors
  • Demonstrated experience in modeling RF sensor output, either modulated waveforms or streams of digital samples used for real-time representation of RF scenes
  • Demonstrated experience presenting technical data to Stakeholders and Customer community, in design reviews and technical interchange meetings

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Math, Engineering, science or related technical field.

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Technical leadership with capture/pursuit experience, including contribution or authoring of white papers, RFI responses, proposal of technical volumes, or related experience
  • Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Patents, Papers and Publications in related technical field
  • National recognition in industry
  • Strong interpersonal skills working in a team environment with positive interaction
  • Demonstrated ability to put forth and drive technical execution plans
  • Experience in RF HIL chambers, flight tables, and RF scene presentation hardware
  • Integration experience with missile systems or ship/airborne platforms
  • Understanding of complex threat environments and battlefields
  • Experience and knowledge of advanced electronic attack methods and simulation
  • Experience in multiple cooperative sensors scenarios, including multi-mode (EO + RF) systems
  • Experience with advanced datalink techniques
  • Understanding the nature and testing of Cyber vulnerabilities as applied to RF systems
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB and other high level scientific programming languages
  • Proficiency with modeling & simulation tools and frameworks, such as six degree of freedom simulations
  • Broad knowledge of tactical missiles systems to understand system level requirements allocation and dependencies, as well as conduct trades studies at the test systems level
  • Development and deployment of RF models at all stages of the missile product lifecycle, including early concept/trade studies, all-digital performance simulations, and real-time CIL and HIL systems
  • Familiarity with assessing program level risks to performance objectives and developing mitigation activities
  • Experience in integration with test equipment, telemetry data analysis tools, or radar systems and host platforms
  • Active member of RF-related professional organizations

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.
