The Automated Weather Interactive Processing System – Refresh (AWIPS-R) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer I to support AWIPS system testing activities. In this role, the successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the systems engineering lifecycle to include requirements analysis and definition, design, integration, validation and test, with a focus on integration and test. The candidate should be a self-starter who can perform with minimal supervision managing time/resources to meet assigned deadlines. Candidate must possess strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience OR 2 years of relevant experience and a MS in a related Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) field
- Ability to obtain a secret security clearance
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication Skills
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Working knowledge of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
- Experience working aspects of systems engineering, systems integration, and/or systems testing
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office product (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong meteorological/atmospheric science background
- Test Case or Procedure development experience
- Test execution experience
- Requirements analysis experience
- Scripting experience using tools like Python, Pearl or Bash, etc
Desired Skills:
- DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technical (IAT) level 2 (CompTIA Security +) or higher certification
- Experience working within an Agile development environment to include hands-on knowledge of Atlassian tools (Confluence and Jira)
- Automated Test experience
- Familiarity with data formats used within the weather community, NetCDF, GRIB, XML, BUFR, etc.
- Familiar with weather models like WRF, GFS etc
Education Requirements:
- BS/BA in a related Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) field, or related STEM degree program from an Accredited University/School/College
