ERM is seeking a Field Safety Inspector for our client's site in McDonald Island near Stockton, CA. This is a project-based position focused on providing contractor safety inspections and contractor safety coaching for a natural oil and gas drill rig. As a field safety inspector, you will engage with client and contractor team members in the field to facilitate safe work practices, embrace client safety culture expectations, and maintain compliance with the client’s Contractor Safety Program elements and other applicable safety regulations (e.g., Cal/OSHA). This position works to promote a safe work environment by confirming that contractors and the project team, at a minimum, clearly understand the roles and responsibilities related to: reviewing drawings; identifying known hazards; and communicating policies, standards, and procedures applicable to the work. The role includes responsibility of timely notification to management and the safety team about any safety issues.

Physical demands required for the successful performance of this job include standing and/or walking for long hours in a day on uneven and steep terrain, and possibly during variable weather conditions. Must be comfortable living/working in remote / rural areas.

  • Position Expectations:
  • Regular schedule is 7am-5pm Monday through Friday, but varies depending on the project scope of work and schedule and could include evening and/or weekends.
  • On average, employees work about 10 hrs a day
  • Mileage reimbursement and personal vehicle will be needed
  • Commitment for 1 year

Minimum Qualifications: Gas drill rig safety experience is a MUST. Required to have taken OSHA 30-hour and either have a degree in Occupational Health and Safety by a recognized university, hold relevant certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CSP, OHST, CHST, etc.), or have the equivalence in experience or education. Technical expertise in Health and Occupational Safety, including, but not limited to excavation/trenching safety, confined space, lifting/rigging, and public safety.

Specialized experience overseeing construction contractors performing gas transmission pipeline hydrostatic pipe testing, pipeline replacements, pipeline retirements, in-line inspections, corrosion control and other pipeline safety tasks.

Position Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the receipt, review, provide feedback for contractor safety related documents (e.g. Programmatic Safety Plans, Project Specific Safety Plans [PSSPs], Job Safety Analyses [JSAs], Field Safety Observations);
  • Inspect site activities specifically during the kick-off and implementation of medium and high risk scope activities;
  • Perform Field Safety Observations as established by the frequency and level for each contractor and subcontractor in accordance with the SSSP/PSP;
  • Provide on-site occupational safety support to identify, prevent, and mitigate safety risks;
  • Document and retain safety documents in accordance with client requirements;
  • Take direction from client Supervisors and Management responsible for Contractor Safety
  • Lead and/or participate in safety incident investigations, root cause evaluations, etc.;
  • Assign and/or coordinate with team members to address corrective actions, and communicate as appropriate with team members to prevent repeat occurrences;
  • Share safety information to all in an impactful, constructive, and results-oriented manner;
  • Communicate safety trends and recommends safety corrective actions
  • Support compliance with applicable programs (respirator, hearing, ergonomics);
  • Capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions that are unsanitary or dangerous;
  • Has training, knowledge, or experience related to the work to be performed and knowledge of the appropriate mitigation measures for the associated hazards;
  • Has formal training to identify and mitigate hazards associated with specific high risk activities;
  • Familiar with managing contractor safety for operations; and
  • Familiar with Cal/OSHA safety regulations and requirements.

May include the following activities:

  • Initiate and/or participate in safety kick-off, periodic or daily safety meetings with contractors;
  • Function as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations and ordinances including, but not limited to, DOT, EPA, OSHA, Cal/OSHA and CPUC;
  • Deliver training to support the communication of established processes or procedure requirements to stakeholders;
  • Serve as a resource for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the client company-wide initiatives; and
  • Utilize safety trend analysis to identify and mitigate actions to correct gaps, introduce and implement innovative solutions with impact to correct gaps, and communicate opportunities for improvement.

This is a 1 year renewable contract opportunity with Healthcare benefit. Rate is hourly and mileage is allotted for travel outside of the 60 mile radius of the Central Valley.
