ERM is hiring for an Environmental Inspector to support a project-based opportunity at various railroad sites throughout Southern California (from San Diego to Bakersfield). In this role, you will perform environmental inspections of railroad facilities and operating areas then record observations and document information. Training will be provided for all client-specific and site-specific safety, security, sampling and inspection procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Travel to railroad facilities located throughout the southern California area.
- Perform environmental inspections of various railroad facilities and operating areas and record observations using a tablet/programs.
- The inspections support compliance with environmental regulations concerning SPCC, HMBP, waste, air permitting, and storm water.
- Conduct tailgate environmental training for facility personnel, as needed.
- As needed, collect samples of used oil.
- Complete sample chain-of-custody documentation, and deliver or ship the samples to a laboratory.
- Perform work safely, complying with ERM and client requirements and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including hardhat, safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, and orange high-visibility vest.
- Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
- Communicate with ERM Project Manager, client staff, and onsite regulators during field activities.
SCHEDULE:
- Project scheduled to start early 2020 for an extended period of time (1 to 2 years).
- Availability to work four to five days per week. Daily hours and duration are variable depending on the site location and work to be completed.
- Given the drive times to some of these locations from, some days may exceed 8-hours including site work and travel, but ERM fatigue management procedures will be implemented to avoid excessively long days.
- Work days are scheduled in advance monthly and are flexible to accommodate other obligations.
- Availability to occasionally be available on a weekend would be beneficial.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma.
- Minimum of 4 years of environmental inspection experience.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to pass ERM background check and drug screen.
- Experience with SPCC, HMBP, waste, air permitting, and storm water inspections is a plus.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record; ability to drive to the various project locations throughout California. A company or rental/lease vehicle will be provided for project work.
- Must be able to utilize a tablet in the field to document data.
- Must be 40 hour HAZWOPER trained to conduct field work.
- Railroad experience a plus.
- Effective observational and organization skills; experience recording detailed technical data a plus.
- Effective communication skills with ERM and client staff.
- Experience with sample collection a plus.
- Local candidates preferred.
