POSITION SUMMARY

Lead, in a hands-on manner, development and validation of manufacturing processes of impeccable quality for diagnostic instruments and consumables, as a part of Zoetis VMRD. The focus of the Diagnostics R&D Process Development team, as part of a co-development team with colleagues from Global Manufacturing Technology (GMT) and Global Manufacturing Supply (GMS), is as follows:

(1) Ensure Design For Manufacturability is considered during design of every new Diagnostic instrument and consumable

(2) Develop pilot manufacturing processes for new Diagnostic instruments and consumables

(3) Validate manufacturing processes for new Diagnostic instruments and consumables, including Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ)

(4) Co-lead transfer of Manufacturing Processes for new instruments and consumables to GMT and GMS

(5) Develop and transfer specifications for Manufacturing Processes for new instruments and consumables to GMT and GMS

This position will report directly to the Vice President of Global Diagnostics R&D. The role interacts extensively with counterparts in other VMRD (Veterinary Medicine Research and Development) groups, and Global Manufacturing Technology (GMT), GMS (Global Manufacturing and Supply), and Zoetis PMI (Product Management and Innovation), to ensure alignment of the diagnostic R&D process development strategy with internal and external requirements. This role also works in close collaboration with the Director of Diagnostics R&D Systems and Hardware development and the Director of Diagnostics R&D Software development, and device development leaders in Raleigh (North Carolina), to ensure that assays and instruments work together to create diagnostic solutions that meet and exceed customer requirements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, in a hands-on manner, development and validation of manufacturing processes of impeccable quality for diagnostic instruments and consumables.
  • Build a Diagnostics R&D Process Development team, and provide hands-on leadership, including establishing key goals for operational efficiency and excellence, and continuous improvement targets.
  • Work with peers to ensure that common practices and processes are used to support efficient portfolio progression.
  • Create a culture that promotes flexible work processes and ensures the effective transfer of R&D products into manufacturing, and subsequent launch.
  • Remain current with new and cross industry technologies and practices, as well as evolving external requirements that impact product design, execution, analysis and reporting.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports and other staff as appropriate to facilitate colleague development and succession planning.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science, advanced degree (MS/PhD) preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience in the development and validation of manufacturing processes for diagnostic devices and assays and/or medical devices
  • Requires a documented track record of success in leading successful transfer to manufacturing and launch of diagnostic devices and/or medical devices
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE’s), Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ)
  • Six Sigma Certification is preferred
  • Experience working in a matrix environment, where alignment of goals and flexibility in allocating resources across functions is essential to organizational success
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including negotiating, problem solving, and collaborating
