Packaging Quality Technical Manager
.The position is responsible for providing leadership and supervision for the Packaging Quality group and the ongoing monitoring of Niagara Bottling packaging quality. Ensure that processes and procedures lead to packaging that meets the necessary quality standards. Provide technical expertise to manufacturing locations as needed. Interact cross-functionally and with customers as needed regarding package quality complaints/issues.
This position reports to the Director of Packaging Quality and works independently to support the manufacturing plants with a comprehensive package quality program.
Essential Functions
- Provide leadership for Quality focusing on packaging material and equipment requirements within Niagara Bottling. This should include but not be limited to resin, injection molding, blow molding, closures, bottles, labels, corrugated trays, shrink wrap, stretch wrap, palletizing, and incoming pallet quality
- Comply with established Niagara Bottling packaging Quality goals and objectives
- Work closely with the operations/engineering/supplier quality groups to provide technical support and be instrumental in ensuring that departmental and plant objectives are met in areas of Quality and Overall Packaging Equipment Effectiveness
- Work collaboratively and cross-functionally (with R&D, Commercialization, Engineering, and Product Development) to coordinate and/or conduct PVR and PQ line trials & data collection
- Work collaboratively with Supplier Quality Team to ensure packaging-related issues are addressed in a timely manner with our manufacturing facilities
- Ensure that packaging specifications, supplier specifications, and equipment design are critical to quality and are aligned to enable first pass quality
- Support production and packaging facilities with technical leadership and facilitation of Root Cause Analysis
- Participate in the development of Start Up planning with plant personnel to identify all additional Quality testing requirements, scrap impacts, and potential consumer complaints
- Maintain/prepare SOPs, policies, and procedures regarding Quality Team’s interface with other departments
- Serve as an inter-departmental facilitator for packaging ideas, requests, questions, and/or as issues are resolved
- Combine technical expertise, solid project management, and cross-functional team skills to provide a complete source of packaging services for the manufacturing facilities
- Validate that packaging changes and projects meet customer quality expectations
- Recommend, develop, and implement packaging changes, modifications, and/or standards as needed for productivity improvements, quality improvements, and/or cost savings
- Assist in the analysis of consumer/customer complaints as needed. Provide expert opinion to CQA Lab as needed.

- 50% - on average travels 2 weeks out of the month

Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- 6 Years – Experience in Field or similar manufacturing environment
- 2 Years – Experience in Position
- 0 Years – Experience managing people/projects

- 10+ Years– Experience in Food Processing Environment, Familiarity with packaging quality 6 Years – Experience working in Position

Competencies

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Packaging, or a related field preferred
- Ability to present technical information/data and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, clients, customers or general public.
- Proven ability to statistically determine equipment and packaging material compatibility through Design of Experiment (DOE) or other similar process Knowledge and experience with plant operations, processing and packaging
- Knowledge and experience with plant operations, processing and packaging equipment, preferably in the bottling industry.
- Experience in injection and blow-molding PET and HDPE a plus.
- Strong organization and project management skills with ability to multi task
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with all levels of the organization
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Must work well under pressure in a very fast paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and with limited direction
- Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred
