Title: BIOINFORMATICIAN (Fixed Term: 3 Years)

Location: Fort Collins, CO

A great opportunity to be part of the newly established Zoetis Incubator Research Lab at CSU! Zoetis is seeking an experienced scientist with expertise in RNA sequencing and analysis to identify dysfunctional pathways that could serve as drug targets or diagnostic tools. The disease focus will be immune dysfunction (autoimmune disease, cancer, and immunomodulation). 

The successful candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience working with RNA sequencing or other relevant omics platforms (metabolomics or proteomics). Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.

Please note: This position is for a fixed term of 3 years.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Experience with next generation sequence assembly of DNA and RNA, mapping and analysis software, genotyping algorithms and variant detection, CNV analysis, systems biology and pathway analysis
• Experience with high density SNP data handling, analysis and genome wide association study knowledge are required.
• Expertise in programming languages including: R, Python, and UNIX scripting language.
• Work closely with clinical staff to design collection and processing of samples to avoid pre-analytical artifacts.
• Work closely with biologists to formulate hypotheses and design appropriate experiments to identify potential genes and pathways of interest.
• Present results to scientific teams and management.
• Collaborate with diagnostic scientists to develop predictive biomarkers and disease state diagnostics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Educational background: PhD (statistics, bioinformatics, or applied mathematics), or BS/MS with appropriate experience.
• Expert in bioinformatics and associated omic platforms
• Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision
• Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• Work environment: The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms
